Is the Green Bay vs. Seattle game one of the biggest meltdowns in NFL history?

Dude, Pete is revolutionary.

Nobody preached "fight a full 60 minutes" until Pete Carroll along. Teams used to routinely forfeit games at halftime.

Nobody preached "create turnovers" until Pete Carroll came along. In fact, before he was in the NFL, there wasn't even a term to describe a "turnover", because they literally never occurred.

Nobody preached "competition and 'Next Man up!'" until Pete Carroll came along. On the contrary, coaches used to discourage competition, as they felt that getting the most out of players would lead to undue hardship on the player.

These reasons and more are why the Seahawks will win the Pete Carroll Bowl and end up hoisting their second Pete Carroll Trophy in as many years.

It happens...i really dont want seattle to win another superbowl but at this point it looks like they are just destined...they play hard and the crazy crap that no one can explain all happens for them right now

Interesting statement (one I've heard on the radio/TV often since the game ended)
While it's hard to overlook how dreadful the Hawks offense was in the first three quarters, when you look at the totality of the game, other than return yardage, turnovers and sacks - the Hawks 'won' essentially every major stat . . .
~ more 1st downs
~ better in RZ, 3rd down and 4th down efficiency
~ more passing AND more rushing yards
~ more average gain per passing play

That happens when teams are playing to catch up. Stats often do not tell the entire story.

its funny how some fans just cant accept a gift. gb outplayed seattle for most of the game but lost, it happens. nobody cares about yards when they're in a prevent. burnett should have milked that return for every yard he could. once he didnt i knew they were just thinking kill clock. dangerous way to play.

Operative phrase there "most of the game".
This was an EXTREME example of something Pete constantly preaches - it's not how you start, it's how you finish.

Oh Jesus Christ

Lol. I can literally call how it will play out every time this team plays. Some lucky ass HUGE play (2 in this game) and a crucial blown call by the refs.

The GB sideline was celebrating like they'd won already.

In all my years of watching football I can think of far more situations where being overly conservative and playing the clock came back to bite a team in the ass than playing aggressively did yet it still continues. Teams tend to play in unison and when your offense backs off the gas pedal, the defense and special teams tend to follow suit, players react reflexively and all of a sudden youre losing a game that you should have easily won.

That f**ker Bennett doesn't slide and instead goes up field, GB runs at least three times and kicks a FG. Game over! That's how they should have finished and they know it. f**k you cheattle!

look i dont blame you for guzzling the kool aid but lets call it for what it is. burnett opted against getting interception yardage for whatever reason and that changed everything. football is not a best of 7 series and the best team doesnt always win the game. seattle wasnt better than green bay but sill won the game. thats great for you guys as fans but you cant sell seattle out playing green bay yesterday because of yards accumulated when green bay is in allow yards not points mode. too bad for them it backfired and they allowed both.
GB offense did sh*t in the second half..They played too conservative...You don't play that way in Seattle
I think it is the biggest meltdown considering how close the game was to being over and a team scores 15 in 44 seconds.

Other comebacks were multiple scores by a team in a span of a quarter or more. This one, the win was nearly sealed. 15 points in 44 seconds says it all.
SEA has got to be GB fan's most hated team now. The immaculate interception and now this. Sheesh!

Yes - the original point of my post was to refute the idea that "the best team didn't win the game" . . .
While Green Bay played better for most of the game (huge kudos to their DEE), the totality of the stats (with a couple noted exceptions) proved differently.
Playing better for most of one the game doesn't necessarily equate to "the better team".

No - I'm quite sure Pete is not the only one that preaches it and didn't mean to imply he was revolutionary by doing so. But, his team certainly seems to take it to heart and field more than most.
(as evidenced by their 2nd half play much of the season)

Come on, Lisa. The Seahawks had a huge dose of Marshawn and an even bigger dose of luck. That two-point conversion?? COME ON! Wilson has got to be the luckiest QB in the league. The guy goes 1-7 with three ints and a rating of ZERO in the first half and he ends up the winning QB. Unbelievable.

On a very basic level, the team that wins the game is the better team. But all this does is reinforce one of my most basic observations about the NFL - that every year, luck plays an extremely important part in the outcome. The Seahawks got real lucky.

The are most NFL fans hated teams. Remind of late 80's pistons with trash talk & dirty play. Add PED use also
"One of the biggest meltdowns."

I did not say "the" biggest.

A lot of people mis reading the title.

Also considering what was on the line. The NFC Championship game and a trip to the Super Bowl. This was not a lower level playoff game.

its one of the biggest meltdown in a sense that the seahawks scored 22 points in like 3 minutes. SMH. As much as i HATE seattle, Green Bay did deserve to lose this game. It's very sad....

Definitely one of the bigger meltdowns I've seen in an NFL game. We've seen bigger comebacks in terms of the deficit, but just the way the final minutes unfolded was pure madness lol.

GB absolutely deserved to lose. Seattle did their best to hand this game to them on a silver platter, and they refused to take it. They played scared the entire game, even when they were up 16. They didn't take advantage of ANY of the golden opportunities they had to ice it.

- Twice passed up on 4th & Goal at the 1-yard line. Should have went for the TD both times.
- Rodgers-Nelson fail to convert an easy TD. Rodgers threw 2 INTs in scoring position.
- The defense allowed a critical 3rd & 19 conversion. Seattle goes on to score a TD on a Fake FG.
- Burnett picks off Wilson (his 4th INT), and inexplicably slides down with 5:00 left in the game when he could have ran for a possible pick 6. 3 & out ensues, the punter shanks the kick.
- GB fails to secure the onside kick, yet another blunder.
- Seattle easily scored on their last 3 offensive drives.

Seattle on the other hand took advantage of every gift GB gave them. Their defense did a hell of a job keeping the game close, and the offense made the plays they needed to win in the end.
