Plus, Seifert had at least two #1 defenses and a couple of #2 defenses. Fangio was great, but not as good as Seifert IMO.
Seifert was pretty much the forerunner of the Seahawks whole defensive approach. Carroll picked it up while he was with the 49ers.

It funny because of the perceived lack of talent on defense if they continue to play well he is going to get a ton of credit. We do have a young talented coach on deck though in Tarver that is hopefully learning from him.
I dunno, you'd think Mangini's horrific stints as a HC would disqualify him, but you never know. If he does go, I can indeed see Tarver taking over.

Norv's didnt. Mangini will likely get one more crack as an NFL HC sooner or later.

Raiders should be the first to call. I think he will be perfect for the Raiders. They seemed to me like they need a calm and thorough coach to keep the players focus and on even keel. He would need a good OC along with him though.

Don't think anyone will come calling this year. If he puts together two strong years as DC then he's probably gone.

I don't think a lot of posters were opposed to the move, but the fans were upset that Mangini was hired because Vic moved on to another team. Vic was perhaps the best coordinator in the history of the 49ers and losing him was painful.
His track record has been very respectable and the reason why he was the TE coach so he can gain an offensive perspective and how offenses like to attack defense. Since he has that perspective on that concept, his defensive philosophy has changed significantly, and for the better. I didn't want Mangini as the defensive coordinator but he's doing a good job so far.
Respect.
fangio is and was over rated in my opinion,, nc and i do not have to agree on everything
as others have said,, george was the best d c we ever had in my opinion.

if our defense is consistently shutting asses down, Mangini will be gone after this season
...hopefully Tarver soaks up all the knowledge of his system in the event we lose Mangini

"Man, all phases came out and played today. Our preparation this whole preseason, the week before the game, it was a long week for us. They way we prepared, we just knew in our hearts we were going to come in this game and win. Our preparation was outstanding and I've honestly never prepared like that during the week on a team before."
Aaron Lynch-
when i read stuff like this,, even though i know this is what he is supposed to say
.... even though the steelers are good,, I am losing no sleep over how the niners are preparing for the steelers. I have full confidence in the coaches to prepare the team and for the players to execute it. whatever problems they had monday they are fixing them this week. i love these coaches and i love this team
