I don't think a lot of posters were opposed to the move, but the fans were upset that Mangini was hired because Vic moved on to another team. Vic was perhaps the best coordinator in the history of the 49ers and losing him was painful.

His track record has been very respectable and the reason why he was the TE coach so he can gain an offensive perspective and how offenses like to attack defense. Since he has that perspective on that concept, his defensive philosophy has changed significantly, and for the better. I didn't want Mangini as the defensive coordinator but he's doing a good job so far.

Respect.
fangio is and was over rated in my opinion,, nc and i do not have to agree on everything as others have said,, george was the best d c we ever had in my opinion.

No worries cc. I liked Fangio a lot but I also stated quite a few issues I had with his philosophy, scheme and personnel choices throughout his tenure here; one of those, ironically, was he's a bit stubborn.

My background is MUCH more inline with Mangini so I couldn't be more happy thus far. Long ways to go though...

fangio was good at looking at the incredible talent and then letting them go ahead and play.

mangini is way more how can we use this talent to totally ruin the offense's day.
Interesting read...Magini used a lot of depth, way different from fangios.

Give us your thoughts on how this one went tonight.

"Man, all phases came out and played today. Our preparation this whole preseason, the week before the game, it was a long week for us. They way we prepared, we just knew in our hearts we were going to come in this game and win. Our preparation was outstanding and I've honestly never prepared like that during the week on a team before."

Aaron Lynch-
when i read stuff like this,, even though i know this is what he is supposed to say .... even though the steelers are good,, I am losing no sleep over how the niners are preparing for the steelers. I have full confidence in the coaches to prepare the team and for the players to execute it. whatever problems they had monday they are fixing them this week. i love these coaches and i love this team

Agreed. I felt really good about the hires/promotions as I bought into the whole "emphasis on teaching/developing" thing. It may have only been one game but they really showed that impact from the opening drive (aside from the blocked FG). We were crisp, playing fast and just seemed to have the perfect playcall on both offense and defense all night despite a lot of youngsters playing and it was a beautiful sight to see. I'm really liking Mangini's aggressive and confusing style. I'm sure we will give up a big play or two at times but I also think we will be in that backfield quite a bit and that will be problematic for the team.

Everybody plays now. Starter means so less under Mangini. Love it.

Sounds like the old Bill Walsh thing. "Everybody plays."
Yup, everybody keeps his head in the game and best of all, our guys can rotate and stay fresh. Amazing how Justin fought thru it, but in 2nd half of season, even he started to show some wear , tear, and slowing down. Now our guys can just fire on all cylinders all the time because they know they will get a blow. Stil, you can't put humpty dumbrowski back there, so the overall quality of our D has gone up....may have been there last yr, but nobody ever got a chance except the starters. I love it when our team does this.
so this was our big nickel against the vikings

Brooks-Armstead-Tank-LynchBowman-TarttAcker-Brock-Bethea-Reid-Johnson

base run
Dorsey-Williams-DialBrooks-Bowman-Wilhoite-LynchAcker-Bethea-Reid-Brock

this had to have been our prevent defense at the end of the half

Lynch-TJE-BrooksBowman-TarttAcker-Brock-Bethea-Reid-Ward-Johnson

really interesting. look like tank and armstead are coming in to specifically disrupt that pocket! i love it.

It's really a breath of fresh air, seeing fresh bodies in there rather than a 2 min break makes me happy. I imagine Justin smith would still be dominant and still playing if Fangio did this, I like Fangio just that he leaves bodies in the bench to rot rather than be used.
I know it's human nature to want to compare. However, in this case I really wish the comparisons would cease. For one, Vic did an amazing job for us...we were top 5 EVERY year and FEARED , talented or not he knew what he was doing. On the other hand , early on Man-Genius looks like a genius indeed. We will need to see more but i'm quite impressed , just like I thought I'd be after seeing glimpses of his schemes in preseason. Bottom line is both of these men are brilliant , just cut from a different cloth. *Samurai Bow* and much Respect to Vic for his service and cheers to our exciting future with Mangini!

I'm not worried about mangini getting another HC job for a while at least

+1

There is some super ignorant posting going on in here. Idk even know where to start, the Justin Smith comment was omg.

Its amazing how many zoners can form such strong opinions & conclusions after ONE GAME. Fangio was successful four straight seasons including playoffs, Mangini has a long way to go.

Not so much in the playoffs, Mangini has 3 Superbowl rings...how many does Fangio have? Seems like you shoulda done just a little research before you make embarrassing posts.

It's not about comparing who's successful and who's not its about using variety combination of players, the defensive line being rotated and seeing a lot of fresh bodies that was rarely done with the previous. Just sayin, Justin Smith probably would've avoided more aches and pain in his old body if rotated constantly.
