Last I checked, most everyone agrees Buffalo has a damn good defense across the board. Dominated Andrew Luck in Week 1, and then got absolutely torched by Brady to the tune of 466 yards and 3 TDs just one week later.

It's never as great or bad as it seems. Every game is it's own story. Just move on and get ready for the Cards. It'll be a different game entirely.

Good view point.

Agreed. One thing I would like to add is circumstance. It is not often that you play a late Monday night game, only to travel to face a super bowl contender on ten days rest. With a young team, and a new coaching staff, that spells disaster. Hopefully, they all learn from it and improve.
Do they call this guy "Mangenius" because he is a really good coach or do they call him that because there actually mocking him because he's a dumbass?

Great post

Just to kinda use some recent history to add to this, in Vic's second game as our DC we game up 470+ yards and an 80 catch in OT to lose a home game to Dallas. I'd be willing to bet no one thought at that time, we were about to witness our best defense since the dynasty days. Thing is you just never know when or if a unit is gonna gel and make a run.

good question...for the Vikes game answer would be choice one. For the Pitts game, closer to choice two. Ah, that is too harsh. I think Mangini just got hypnotized by the Steeler mystique and made a poor choice on how to game plan for the Steelers game. That doesn't mean he is a dumb azz...just made a bad guess as to how to take on Ben. He changed plans in the second half, and we did somewhat better but the game was out of hand by then.

I think a lot will be learned about mangini and his abilities after this game.

manusky would give brown like 10 yards of cushion space

On 3rd and 5.

That also sounds like a Jim mora jr coodinated defense. Never in my life was I more uncomfortable with an opposing offense having a 3rd and 15....,because usually a 16 yard play followed.
So last week he was Mangenious and this week he's Mangina. Overreactions much?

Dude, Big Ben and Brown were dialed in that game. The Steelers would have beat 28 of the 31 other teams that day. The throws and catches in many cases were not defendable.
I'll repeat it Sofa...."Things are never as great, nor as bad as they seem". That is a thot well worth remembering and it doesn't just apply to 49ers football. Thanks, amigo.

And Geeked, I agree, and maybe that would have been 30 other teams. Brady and the PATs would have been pretty tough

I agree. Just like I agree that no one could have beat us in the black jerseys on opening day. We were just too hyped up.
We played Ben and Brown before with probably less talent in the secondary and held them to low points. This game is all on Mangini. I'm not saying he's bad, I'm simply saying it is all on him and his complicated system. I really can't believe that our guys are as slow as they looked out there. The thinking and learning curve required to execute the Mangini defense has been mentioned by the players throughout the offseason.

Combine a lot of thinking to do, with complicated looks or disguising that puts players in difficult positions to receover...well, you have broken coverages and slower play.

I don't want Mangini to give up his aggressive defense. What I want for him to do is slow into it no different than slowing into the zone blocking scheme. We are still running man blocking throughout a game which tells me the ZBS is not 100% but quite possibly could be as the OL gets better. Mangini needs to do the same thing with his defense.
Also, Jimmy T needs to be held just as responsible for the defense as we held Jim Harbaugh for the offense.

he was a dumbass this last game.

not ony did the scheme not produce a sack, but Rapistberger may have not even been touched by a finger the whole game

No pressure produced and you leave our safeties exposed deep? what a faux cover 2
