A thought on our pass rush. We have talented and explosive defensive linemen and Lynch and Brooks are no slouches.
Could it be that since we are practice more rushes that coordinate with blitzing ILBs and Safeties that our DL don't get to focus as much on their pass rush ability in practice?

The thinking and learning curve required to execute the Mangini defense has been mentioned by the players throughout the offseason.
Combine a lot of thinking to do, with complicated looks or disguising that puts players in difficult positions to receover...well, you have broken coverages and slower play.
I don't want Mangini to give up his aggressive defense. What I want for him to do is slow into it no different than slowing into the zone blocking scheme. We are still running man blocking throughout a game which tells me the ZBS is not 100% but quite possibly could be as the OL gets better. Mangini needs to do the same thing with his defense.
Agree somewhat, but it's hard to say this is the same Pitts team as in the past. I've never seen Roethlisberger look as good. His passess were on target to the point of being better than Rodgers. He wasn't hit--which impacts him as much or more than most QBs.
There were some mixups in the backfield certainly, but they have a pretty young group of players back there. Bethea is the veteran, with Brock being the most experienced CB...six injury plagued years. Still learning Mangini's defense so I'm not sure we should be that surprised. If they look like this at the end of the year I'll be most unhappy!
They have four or five really tough teams in their next six games so we should get a good idea of their improvement, or lack of improvement game by game.

The defensive system as I see it means nothing if you cant pass rush or have a solid cover corner. Week one looked good, but when faced with an experienced QB in week 2 who knows how to deal with any blitz schemes, team folded like house of cards. Expect similar pounding in Arizona.

Looking to see how our coaching staff addresses both sides of the ball.

Mangina has to go!!! He is all about deception but lacks results. Just put our guys in a position to make plays. His pre-snap b******t is costing us dearly. I watch football religiously and I have never seen so much wasted energy for nothing! This a*****e seems like he purposely trying to sink us.
He really has no clue!!!

Terrible. I don't want to hear about 4 safety's and matching CB's to specific WR's...he's destroyed this D.

Where is the man under zone we used to run? Where our guys are facing the qb and able to react. This guy is trying to reinvent the wheel at our demise!

huge drop off in talent along the front 7
and the secondary isn't buying in. brock isn't even trying out there.

Much of a dropoff? Fangio is elite DC compared to Mangini, worst DC in the NFL right now.

Yet this team, with some similar players, played Top 5 D under Fangio when we were decimated on defense.
Mangini is a horrible DC, and never should have been given the job.

This soft zone stuff has to go. The offense is just playing catch out there.
