Eric Mangini Thread

Johnson should be starting over Acker looking at how they both have played so far this season.

Mangini is playing soft coverage. Doesn't want to prevent the big play and is giving up a lot underneath. The other side of what happened in PIT. This is what many of us wanted as an adjustment to what happened last week. The 4 man pass rush is crap and the coverage is toasted intermediate range.

No, what most of us wanted was for him to not put our safties at the line and then expect them to chase down world class speedsters like Brown and Bey. That's just a horrible game plan from the jump. Thats your defensive coordinator!!!

So you wanted the safeties at the LoS like last week for this ARI game too? He probably wanted the safeties back for coverage. Most of the ARI gains have been behind LBs, in front of safeties.

No I said what I wanted. I wanted us to stick with the man under zone. Do you kow what a man under is with a lb zone? If you don't then you wouldn't see the difference. Its just guys running around to you!

What in the world happened to our D? Gosh, arm tackles, whiffs, no tackles, no coverage, jeez.

Thank God, only 6 mins to go.

Well, he said his defense would cause confusion! Me I'm confused as to why he was given the job, they players seemed confused on who to cover, and Jimmy T just looks confused!
He won't be a DC ever again after we fire him

Im not trying to be a jerk but I know football and I played it. Its not as elaborate as people think. The terminology gets fuzzy but the basic principles are the same. Fangios base defense was actually very simple. It was a very basic man defense with a two deep set. Meaning two safties over the top. The under means to sit under the wrs to create plays. But the key ingredient is the saftey. If played right, you have the reciver covered over the top and underneath requiring a perfect throw. Remember our defense wasnt perfect. We gave up a lot of yards. But we at least forced them to make the perfect throw everytime. But we were also never out of position which also allowed us to rally to the ball.

We also used to let our Lbs roam and make plays. Now everyone has an assignment doing lord who knows what. I think I heard Bowmans name twice today and one was on a personal foul penalty. Mangini just doesn't play smart football! He tries to be tricky and wants to win because of his efforts and not the players.

I honestly don't know what he is coaching because he has players looking lost! I guess thats why they call him mangenius. Because he thinks to much! Just play your game and who cares?

We dont need to disguise anything. We never did with Fangio much. But we still won because its a very basic defense and concept which allows players to play and not think. Our defense is like a science experiment or something. All he has to do is watch the film and call the same plays. We ran like 3 plays 75% of the time.

Anyways thats my rant, I could keep going but by the time I finished it would be next Sunday and Id have to start all over again.

Just a bad scheme I think. Especially now that coaches have seen what Pitt did to the DBs...it will be open season and cute tricks won't help. I was hoping they'd go to straight up man in the second half so we could at least know what the DBs are capable of in regards to coverage.
Time to get to basic calls and pepper in blitzes. the pass rush is what's really killing us more than anything. he's actually had a LOT of play calls that should have worked but because we could get no pressure palmer was able to sit there and then let the wr become uncovered. that happened last week and this week. so really, the pass rush is killing the secondary for now.

so in response i think we need to go pattern match and we need to keep the safeties back with the pattern matching.

our run defense is stout. we just need to somehow put pressure on the qb and it's not happening.

Agreed, but where are the stunts and traps? I don't see any of the twists and stunts we used to run. I just see a predictable defense.

Oh your saftey is showing blitz? Ill just shoot it over the top to the NFLs best WR, brilliant!!!

So do exactly what Fangio did.....its not going to happen. He sold somebody on the idea he knew more than Vic.
Mangini's been the biggest disappointment for me this year, especially after that great wk1 performance

OLB play has hurt as well

well it isn't predictable. its the pass rush.

vic would struggle with this team even more. there is no pass rush. just none at all. we have to create pressure with blitzes. it would be practice out there for opposing quarterbacks honestly. clean pocket, running free and finding holes.
Mangenius strikes again!
