So yeah our defense looks like an 8 year old is calling plays out there.

If Ryan is correct it's a learning issue not a play calling issue. Hard to know...but having the LBs drop their coverage with no one behind them...

I think it's a combo of both. Not playing a nickle coverage against a 3 WR set and the LB being outmatched and screwing up.

Please explain to me how we get jacked by PITTs 3 WR sets trying to cover WRs with LBs and go out against ZONA and do the same crap? Brooks, Whiloite or Bowman can not cover any of their WRs. Did it all first half.

Where is the our Nickle package? Where is Ward, Johnson?

Look at that gif.
Our 2 OLB are faking the blitz and up at the los, already beat as they drop into their zones. Brooks just stops and Palmer lofts a pass right over his head. We have a safety stepping up 10 yards off the slot then letting him run right by him.

Can't disagree regarding LBs on WRs when Lynch is trying to cover Fitzgerald. Imaginative? Yes. Sane? No! I thought we were going to play four safeties at times and am disappointed Tartt and Ward aren't in more on these plays. They can cover much better than a LB and are also tough at the LOS...as is Reid.

I'm hoping they play very different coverages or personnel against the Packers or they will experience the same result. Rodgers is a better QB than they've faced so far...so...

Credit goes to thl for the gif.

Two guys wide open across the middle of the defense, these are the big gaps that I was talking about. This is a scheme issue. The receivers are passed off by the LB's and there is a big gap before the safeties get to them. This is free money for a veteran QB.

I can just imagine the smile on Rodgers face when he watches the film of this game.

This looks more like a blown coverage by Reid than a scheme issue

This looks like a Cover 3 with a blitz. Since there were 2 WR on the left side, it's either Reid's or Brook's fault. It's similar to this image but the E on the left side is Brooks and he's not blitzing. Because we blitzed, we are exposed on the two WR side. I think ARI caught us in the wrong defense because even if the blitz would have applied pressure, Palmer could have thrown it quick to the receiver on the far left side.

No, the outside receivers were covered. Acker shouldn't have to come flying across like that to tackle Larry when you had a safety back, another safety(I think Reid) that let him blow right past him.

Even if Palmer had opted to go to the other receiver that was open, there was way too much of a gap between there for Bethea to move up and make any kind of a play. Those seams on the field is where the Cards kept attacking.

The players have not learned how the spacing works in this defense. They are overcorrecting from the PIT game. They know where they are supposed to be but they don't know yet where their teammate is. Experience will help that. Right now, they are taking major bumps and bruises. I will say this, ANY team with a talent can make up for batch coaching UNLESS the coach is calling goal line vs a 5 WR set at the 50 yard line. These guys just need to learn the spacing.

Bethea was late but taking into account his play vs PIT and Carson doing a good job looking at him to hold him along with seam route in front of him...can't really blame him. Reid had a dilemna on whether or not to worry about Fitz or the WR to Fitz left.

I think we got caught and it was a bad defensive call on this one. Playing zone vs a blitz that doesn't get there vs 4 receiving targets going out will leave huge open spots.

Spacing issues aside, good QB's are going to be able to beat this defense almost everytime without a consistent pass rush.

But we are headed in the right direction in terms of the DL. Armstead looks like a very nice pick and possible anchor. Brooks is the only player who appears a little unmotivated. Still think Mangini needs to trust Lynch and the front 3 a little more. I also want to see Percell. Dude has very quick hands and seems like he has some upside.

Exactly what I was expecting. I mean, he was the TE coach. lmao

He also spent almost a decade as an assistant, secondary coach and DC under Belichick. But his scheme completely neglects things that the Patriots have done well for years, especially when he was there.
