Funny. We need to win with class and get people who can work together and we might end up with those two.

I like the sporano hire but that news was followed up by this.

Here is a funny article. But this guy sounds scorned.

To be fair, Eric Mangini has been with 49ers for a little while now...I'm sure if he still had an attitude problem, players and other coaches on the team would have taken notice and he would not have been hired..Perhaps Mangini is seeing things from a more mature perspective.

Not discounting what you said, because my opinion is just speculation. Mangini was a consultant, and his job was to mostly talk to the coaches, watch the film, collect the pay check and go home. He might or not might not have had any direct impact, but who knows.
Regardless, other than a few mentions in the year, we hardly heard anything about him.
I'll be surprised if he can get to Vic Fangio status anytime soon.
Anything can happen...sure.

Before Tomsula was hired, there were "reports" that Fangio only wanted to stay with the 49ers if he was hired as the head coach.

If those reports were true, and I do not know if they were, the 49ers did not have the option of keeping Fangio as the defensive coordinator.

I have little enthusiasm for the hiring of Mangini as defensive coordinator, but my vision of him is shaped by my understanding of his work as a head coach, and not by any understanding of his work as a defensive coordinator.

Maybe your "garbage" coach, Mangini, will actually redeem himself. Maybe, he won't.

lets roll

In response to the Nate Jackson article we've all read.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3797442

Mangini was fired Monday, a day after New York failed to make the playoffs despite an 8-3 start and having an NFL-high seven Pro Bowl selections.
"I feel that we let him (Mangini) down and we could have done a better job of making plays," wide receiverJerricho Cotchery said. "It's tough."
...
Nose tackle Kris Jenkins was particularly bothered by the firing, praising the former coach for bringing him to New York and giving him an opportunity to rejuvenate his career. He also thought Mangini deserved another year with the team.

"I'm going to miss him," Jenkins said. "He didn't do what everybody thought he should do. He didn't go with the flow or just do things to make people happy. He took it upon himself to go against the grain and be a man about his situation."

http://www.news-herald.com/general-news/20091208/is-time-on-manginis-side

"Coach Mangini is a family-oriented man, and the team is tight-knit," Cribbs said. "Guys act accordingly. We're always joking around. It's a family around here, no matter what our record is.

"It means a lot to these guys to play hard all the way to the end as a show of unity. We have good leaders. We stay together as a family, win or lose. We're learning how to lose right now. Hopefully, soon, we'll learn how to win."

-----------------------
Point is, on a huge player roster, different players will have different things to say. Still, Mangini will not be asked to lead the team. Just gameplan, teach, and playcall. If he can do those well, the players will respect him as a DC.
My personal opinion is that losing Ed Donatell will be more devastating than losing Vic Fangio. Guy's like Carlos Rogers, Donte Whitner, Dashon Goldson and Parish Cox all had career years when playing for the Niners. We have a monster linebacking corp and Tomsula is arguably the best d line coach in the league. There was never anything fancy about Fangio's scheme, we simply had great position coaches that taught great technique. We can correct this mistake by grabbing coaches that aren't tied to one another. So when you lose one coach or coordinator, you don't have half or all of your staff leaving because of a firing or a promotion.

Donatel was indeed a DB whisperer but the losses are one in the same, Donatel was gonna go wherever Fangio went.

That is my point. That's why I stated this at the end.

Failure, they made the playoffs and held a team in the playoff to 3 points. You do realize that Fangio gave up more yards in 5 out of his 7 years as a DC before getting sent down to the minors. You do realize that 2 out of those 7 years his defenses were DEAD LAST in points given up. If the WZ wasn't so happy about the Harbaugh hire in 2011 we would have been saying, Fangio was a failure as well.

Even though we were statistically good this year. Our defense gave up a bunch of 2nd half points. If we don't get torched by Cutler, Stanton, Rivers, Carr, and Manning, then we are in the playoffs. Yeah, we had injuries this year, but if your not gonna give Mangini a break for the injuries and FA losses he had to deal with then you can't give one to Fangio.
Sorry, double post

Honestly, I don't think the 49ers had too much to choose from so this is better then pulling another Tomsula and promoting the equipment manager with Zero coordinator experience. But let's just remind all these 'respected' veteran posters all happy about this, what was the WORST performing group in that offense last year? Yup, Mangini's group.
