the middle of the field is wide open just behind the LBs and in front of Safteis, the 8-13 yard zone form the LoS, OCs have noticed and are shredding us there. Mangini hasn't noticed and still calls the same crap. Not to mention that our passrush is beyond pathetic. The D-Line is not getting any pressure, or seldomly, our best passrusher is assigned to cover ?! WtF?!
I have the feeling that Mangini would have sent Charles Haley to cover...
This crap has to stop, NOW!

I hate to say this, but damn, Wilhoite and Bowman can NOT cover worth sh!t in the middle of the field...this defensive scheme absolutely hangs them out to dry (square peg/round hole). What used to be our strength (middle of the field personnel) has quickly become our biggest weakness. Bethea has really lost a step too and Reid continues to avoid tackling IMHO.
This and this. Plus it looked like the line was practicing for R Wilson as 4 guys rushing to keep a statue of a QB in the pocket. No stunts that I can remember.
What is that about?

Well one thing Mangina is doing right.
"There's not much to smile about in San Francisco, but the 49ers run defense put up another strong effort on Sunday, keeping the Ravens to just 77 yards on the ground. It's the fourth time this season the Niners have held the competition to under 100 yards." -NFL.com

Agree. Tired of watching 2 or 3 guys standing 5 yards behind or to the side of a guy when he is the only one there. Mangini has got to change up scheme or players or something soon

You're echoing my thoughts, I'm screaming at the television in frustration about the seam routes, week after week, this zone crap!!
The only reason 49ers won the game is because Baltimore play makers didn't make the plays, elite teams will embarrass us like we seen... I really don't understand why are personnel is being used this way, Lynch in coverage, I get it you have to mix it up but leaving lynch matched up with a running back on a wheel route ...

When the other team is passing against us with no trouble at all, they basically just stick with the pass game.

DL has really good young talent and depth and that's often times with our OLB's in coverage NOT helping to seal the edge or pass rush. Think about that for a second. Just 3 DL. That's it.
Now, from the LB's back, um...yeah.

You're right. Our secondary is horrible.

It's obvious Lynch and Brooks lack the closing ability of Aldon Smith. Harold is a rookie. If you blitz and miss, as you often do against veteran QBs, you risk giving up the long play. Plus...the niners have relatively young DBs. Bethea is the only older guy in the secondary unless you think 27 (Brock) is and old vet (I'd call that a young vet).
Even with these issues the defense shows signs of improvement. If you can't have patience it will continue to be a long season for you! I would like more rotation on the DL with Purcell being active and used to give the D some energy late in games.
The only thing I really don't like about the D right now is having the OLBs dropping back (even Jerod-Eddy is dropping back). While this may fool teams a bit it is taking them from what they do best...put pressure on the QB. But even this could become useful if the D keeps gelling!
Take heart, enjoy the win and hope for the best!
