Eric Mangini Thread

2014 49ers: 10th Pts Allowed, 5th Yards Allowed
2015 49ers: 25th Pts Allowed, 31st Yards Allowed

2004 Patriots: 2nd Pts Allowed, 9th Yards Allowed
2005 Patriots: 17th Pts Allowed, 26th Yards Allowed

I know there is some context there that explains some of the dropoff but I still am at a loss as to what the guy's appeal is as a DC.
Come on Eric Mangini. You know how answer for playbooks as zone defense and sack on quarterback?. Come on.. its easy to creating the playbooks how sack and zone defense. He need study and watch the highlight if they are struggles cuz not work for playbooks. Then need players to move and trick to move around to mix and tackles on quarterback.

yes, but we seem to play better man to man than zone, still excellent point.
Have no faith in this dude as a coordinator.

Its hard because the losses in personnel on the defensive side but if they are going to run his scheme long term, they need to revamp much of the defense, starting with the linebackers. You needed smaller, quicker, faster LB's, you need a much better four man rush, more speed in the back end(bye Bethea), its not a scheme that really is ideal for the players that this team has on defense right now.

I'm also not a fan of the scheme in general, its one where you really need superior talent at all levels of the defense for it to work.

If the last part of your post is true, we could have a trained monkey running this scheme if we have pro bowl players on all levels of the defense.

If we want speed on the back end, we might as well consider playing Dontae Johnson at FS and using Reid/Tartt at SS in the future. You know Dontae can cover. This allows Ward to continue to play the slot, while developing Acker on the outside. Although I still think Johnson should get a shot to get playing time outside sometime.

I don't get your correlation between the 2014 SF defensive stats and this years regarding Mangini.

This dude has been severely over rated. I thought he was more qualified than Tomsula, I guess Baalke didn't feel that good about his coaching ability.

Was he a good TE coach? Vernon went down hill and Celek and Vance did nothing under him.

I was just pointing out that whenever Mangini has been made the defensive coordinator for a team, that team's defensive rankings for drop like a rock.
