No most people are giving Mangini crap because he hasn't done ANYTHING these last few years to earn this. Fangio did miracles at Stanford AND the pros the last 7 years. Get your s**t right. Why would Fangio "settle" to work under a guy that has nothing to show he's HC material in the pros.
So let me get this straight.
4 Years as a HC, 2 years as an analyst, 1 year as a special assistant, 1 year as a position coach = doing nothing and undeserving of a DC position.
4 years as a special assistant (working for a guy with nothing to show that he' HC material in fact he was never a coordinator), 1 year as a college DC = equals deserving of a DC position?

People are also acting like fangio wasn't a fantastic defensive coordinator and any bum off the street could have done what he did, conveniently forgetting he lead a top 5 D with a bunch of backups last year. Both lines of thinking are silly imo.
Care to make a wager on which defense does better, Chicago or the 49ers?
Fangio sucked before he joined the 49ers
Did yall take a nap this last season? Our D was decimated by injury yet he still fielded a top 5 D, it was really amazing what he did and was the only reason we won 8 games.
I understand its niner talk tradition to try to diminish any personnel that we lose to make ourselves feel better but what fangio did with the injuries on D last year is undeniable. I also get that it wasn't just Fangio, we do have great players and fangio had great position coaches in Jimmy T and Donatel but you aren't going to convince me that this team is better off w/o Fangio.

Fangio did a wonderful job last year. But what's your point? Are you suggesting we should have made Fangio the HC? Or hired Mike Shanny to keep Fangio as the DC?

On another note. Perry Fewell may become our defensive backs coach in which he has 11 years of experience in. Not to mention Fewell also has experience as a DC.

This is a good hire, whether or not it was literally 'considered' or promised from the interior politics (if Fangio had fled, yada-yada). Chuck Mangioni runs the Belichick hybrid 3-4/4-3. I think his biggest sell-over to Baalke/Tomsula was how he could incorporate ALL of our linebackers into a gameplan.
This guy was a POS head coach, but his knowledge on defense is useful, under his DC/D-assistant tenor in NE (during their dynasty) he was coaching/scouting DBs, and LBs, and turned guys like Asante Samuel, Rodney Harrison, Tye Law, Randall Gay, Tedy Bruschi, and Mike Vrabel into All-Pros/Pro Bowlers.

EM: OK, Vernon. This is the first down line. Make sure when you run your pattern it's a yard short of this line. That way, if you catch the ball, you can fall backwards to pick up the first down. But if you don't fall backwards, you can let our All Pro punter Andy Lee showcase his skills on the next play.

More excited about Mangini getting the gig over Tarver (and Tarver staying as LB coach). I don't think Rome is burning if we get Fewell and Chud or even Kiffin - that's a fairly experienced coaching staff to balance out Tomsula's "experience shortcomings".

We all know Fangio was pretty much garbage until he got his hands on this all-pro laden defense. Fangio wasn't anything special in my eyes, with how he always had our DBs playing soft coverage, in sort yardage situations, allowing the opposing QBs to complete easy passes to pick up first downs. I know damn near half of our defense was banged up, but that Oakland game did it for me. You let A rookie QB look better than A.Rod every time we've played him with Kaepernick as our starting QB. I mean did he even call a blitz that game......?
The only thing that worries me about Eric is his people skills. I don't players not wanting to Re-sign namely Aldon if acts like an uber a*****e. Plus who in the f**k is going to want sign with us if they know our players are getting treated like s**t, players talk. With who we have stacked on the defense, buzZb could coach them to be ranked in the top 10, so Erics coaching isnt my concern. I just don't want a mini Hitler running the defense, making life miserable for our players.

York saving tons of money by promoting this scrub. Will probably do the same for the OC position.

This is one thing I can definitely agree with. We have a brand new head coach and there is some value in surrounding him with guys who have been there to give advice. We just hired Sparano and Mangini...if you can add Fewell, and hopefully Chud that is a pretty solid brain trust for him to lean on. None of them have been what I would call world beaters at any of their stops so it seems a bit underwhelming but they have proven to be good enough to stick around this league for a while and have held their own in some pretty high profile jobs under demanding owners and/or coaches. When you take them in aggregate and yes I know one more piece REALLY needs to fall in our OC..it adds up to more than the sum of its parts.

Wow! There is someone else who can look at this situation without blind hatred.
