Dude, I have to say... this gave me a chuckle. Lol
First of all, let's get over Fangio. He's gone people! GONE! Not coming back...

Yes, he did a great job but who really wanted him? Other than us! He had ZERO head coaching interviews and only interviewed with the Bears & Skins for their DC positions. He got passed over for Tomsula and he was pissed about it. He's a cry baby... don't let the door hit you in the ass when you leave. Thanks for what you gave us... but no thanks.

On to Mangini hiring, some of these guys were garbage as head coaches but look at the ones that have been successful as coordinators after failing as head coaches.

Hue Jackson, Mike Nolan, Tom Cable, Mike Tice, Steve Spagnulo, Josh McDaniels, Jim Schwartz, Wade Phillips... the list goes on. All these guys were garbage head coaches but were or are successful coordinators/position coaches. It works folks.. not sure why. I don't see any difference with Mangini & Sparano. They have a lot of talent to coach up and I expect great results!

Exactly this! Vic cried about being passed over by the ONLY team that even considered him for a head coaching job. He was the league's highest paid at his position. Go figure! After all the talent and compensation we've provided for him to work with he would rather up and leave and go work for a lesser team. GTFOH!

Before this year I was ready to kick fangio out the door. He did an amazing job this year and 2011 but the two years in between were garbage imo.

yeah I think that's the biggest positive.
From one of the finest coaching staffs in the NFL, to this! We are a laughing stock.

Baalkie, has ruined this team, Frank Gore will never get a ring, nice move Baalkie!

Interesting statement in that article:

"But surely the stories were overblown. Their color was more vibrant because of the contrast. They were being told in the peaceful valley of Shanahan: the heaven to Mangini's hell. Mike Shanahan knew how to run a team. That meant he knew how to treat the men on it. Being a head football coach is not about being a strategic genius."

IF Shanahan is the OC it sounds like we couldn't have chosen two broader ends of the spectrum for the coordinators.

Niner Talk criticized the hire in 2010 before of his horrific fielded defenses for multiple years - a Nolan-esque resume. And now he's a god on this forum.

Let's give Mangini a chance before we dismiss this hire. He could surprise a lot of people.

Good logic

best post I've seen in a while.

"Setting the Browns back untold years on their rebuilding project."

That rebuilding project IS the Browns.

Not to be that smart ass but Mangini's not the head coach. Not saying I approve at all, but the article doesn't have me totally worried about his personality flaws. Plus, I'm thinking Tomsula won't be taking a whole lot of advice from Mangini in regards to practice direction and player interaction. One thing I'm getting from Tomsula is the guy does have hard stops in regards to player moral.

On a side (positive) note, it appeared that the players really enjoyed working with Shanahan, and the biggest complement was how they were treated. Seems Tomusla has this quality in spades.

Every coach in the NFL knows football strategy. It's about leading a group of grown men toward a tangible goal and treating them with the respect their sacrifice deserves. That's how you get them to play well. Many players, upon arriving in Denver, were flabbergasted by how well Shanahan treated them.

Jed: We've got a problem.

Baalke: I know. Some seats are still under $500.

Jed: Not that. Fangio. Not our sort of chap, really. Makes me feel invisible.

Baalke: Then he shall be dealt with. Someone more…cooperative.

Jed: A ball boy, perhaps?

Baalke: They've all quit. Besides, he needs some authority…

Jed: Have you gone mad?

Baalke: Authority, I mean over underlings.

Jed: Go on.

Baalke: Someone abusive.

Jed: Cruel! To those under him.

Baalke: An a*****e.

Jed: But a proven one. One with true a*****e credentials.

Baalkke: A cancer…

Jed: But with…margins.

There is a long silence. The two are deep in thought.

Suddenly they both brighten at once.

Together: MANGINI!

Funny how the two guys that most posters here were crying for to be our head coach (FANGIO, GASE) weren't realky cut out to be head coaches for the rest of the league. Both ended up with same duties on lesser teams with lesser talent. GASE as our head coach
