Has there been any word on how the players feel about the hire? Any tweets?

To be fair, Eric Mangini has been with 49ers for a little while now...I'm sure if he still had an attitude problem, players and other coaches on the team would have taken notice and he would not have been hired..Perhaps Mangini is seeing things from a more mature perspective.
Good point.
Of course, since the players were also successful in clamouring to get rid of Fangio.
Whitner's response to what happened to Fangio should tell you something, because that's the actual "unfiltered" player response. The players that still play for the 49ers can't be honest, they have to fake a smile and pretend that this is all okay with them.

He is rebuilding his image now in this league as a coach and Mangini did get a bit of interest from Oakland and Washington this offseason. It will probably take some time before some team would even be willing to give him another shot as a HC so he is not likely to be poached in the next couple of years. and in order to get another shot as a HC he is going to need to do a good job here so I'm sure he'll be motivated. At least in our situation he has been here for the last couple years and is already familiar with the personnel on that side of the ball. He has seen what Vic has done and perhaps even learned a thing or two from Vic or from what Vic was doing along the way.
Good Post!

Pretty sure JT and Mangini were the source of the leaks in the locker room. They had to prove their loyalty to the Don Jed York.

If the front office defenders can make stuff up about Harbaugh did or said, then we should be free to speculate that the mole(s) in the locker room could be the coaches who are getting rewarded with jobs now.

Perry Fewell most likely as the DB's coach. I love this 49ers_Source guy on Twitter. "If Perry Fewell does well in his interview, he'll be the DB's coach."
No s**t, really Nostradamus.

Perry Fewell is the guy who just got run out of New York City by an angry band of foaming at the mouth Vagiant fans.

Also I doubt they'll have Fewell coach the DBs...he's clearly a better fit to be the WR coach.

He also turned that defense around in 2011 all the way to the superbowl. He was a great DB coach with the Jags and has been a DC in the NFL for the last 9 years.

I see some positive posts here. I personally like the hire and I'm glad he will be away from the TEs. But I like the fact that he is trying to be a more well rounded coach instead of exclusively defense. Could give him a totally different perpesctive on how to attack offenses.

Mangini's title was TE coach, though his job included coming up with how he would defend the Niners offense if he was DC of opposing team
He's a smart cat, Im surprised the webzoners seem so upset with the move
Expect a 3-4, but with more risks (Blitzes) and scheme related game plans tailored to who were playing
