There is no question about that.
@AdamSchefter: Former Jets and Browns HC Eric Mangini, who spent last season as SF's TE coach, expected to be hired as 49ers' DC, per sources.

6'4 345lbs, that could be the guy we plug up the middle lanes with.

Edit: Just saw he was released for animal cruelty, nvm

Mt. Cody would have been very nice!

Well it's less severe than Ray Mcdonald allegedly beating his wife and sexually abusing another female.

By comparison, not too bad? Do it, Balke!

Misunderstanding. Do it, Balke. Do it now!

I just read the story, and it's not a story. If the Ravens are forced to release him, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't sign him. I f**king hate the media and how quick they are to judge somebody without any facts. Story says he took his dog to the vet were it later died and he was in tears, sounds like cruelty to me.....
he is a 2-down-player only, iirc. At a minimum wage and until the roster cut deadline? why not.

Might as well. Good to have depth and competition.

Since he's getting cut, it won't cost us any draft picks.

Yeesh...if that is tthe best he ever did as a DC, sorry but we could, have done better.

He has only been a DC one year. This will be his 2nd season as a DC.

Huh..I would have swore he had longer than that...how the hell did he land a head coaching gig....oh yeah....the jets

Sorry if this has been brought up at some point in this thread cus I haven't gotten the chance to go through all 25+ pages, but a closer look at Mangini's DC job in 2005 with the pats isn't as bad as it seems once you look at the numbers. That pats team broke a record for injuries at the time with 46 different starters. They had some big injuries to big time players. (Teddy B, Ty Law, Rodney Harrison).
The Pats had the bye in week 7 of 2005. During the first 6 weeks leading up to the bye, they averaged around 350 yards and 27 points allowed per game. The Patriots defense averaged around 310 yards and 16 points allowed per game following their bye in week 7 in 2005. That is a huge difference in points allowed, and shows that it took some time for the D to come together, but once it did it returned to pre-Mangini form despite having a lot of inexperienced players in the line-up.
The pats started the year 4-4 but then finished with a 10-6 record. I think Mangini will be just fine as a D coordinator. He already knows our players and our division opponents.

thx for this insight.

Defensive front stays rooted in a 3-4 base. Defensive backs are most likely to continue and employ pattern match principles. I think it's a safe hire that serves to not deviate too much from the previous scheme under Fangio. There's no all22 film from 2010, which was the last time Mangini held a HC position.

Also thl I read somewhere that Mangini runs a little different 3-4 from Fangio in terms of the NT position, he runs a 2 gap 3-4 which might require us to get a bigger NT to eat up blocks where as Fangio's was a 1 gap. Do you think Williams or Dorsey could be those type of players or are they too small? When you get a chance can you touch on this subject and if this is a big deal in terms of our overall defense or is it something minor. Sorry if it's already been brought up, like i said in a previous post I haven't been able to go through all 25 pages of this thread yet.
The Return of the Mangenius is coming..i can feel it
