"So far it's going good," Smith said. "It puts everyone in position to make plays. We have some different things that we're working on and doing."

You beat me to it. There was also this snippet from the Bowman Interview:

"Yeah, a little weird, but we're introducing a new scheme, new coaches, and everything," Bowman said. "Everything is new. I think that's the great thing about it. It's all of us in the one box, and it's all of our jobs to get it the way we want to get it and be able to perform when the season starts."

I'm not sure I like the tinkering when you consider how well our D played. I'm also not excited to change the vocab, which means the players might be thinking more than reacting. Not to mention Mangini likely sees this position as a stepping stone.

Sorry for the negativity, but I'll need proof before I begin to feel positive about the direction of this team.

You missed this crucial part:

This is a theme I've been seeing for a while...sounds like players are contributing to scheme WITH the coaches and the scheme is being tailored to the strengths of said players. That sounds refreshing!

Changes are always "a little weird." But if Bowman is happy, shouldn't you be too?

Smart move including the players.

what are they supposed to say?
I look at it this way...defense is at the core of Mangini's coaching career. He's been a DB coach, DC, head coach...the guy's got great experience. I know he loves big DL...which is one reason I was thinking they might grab either Goldman or Malcolm Brown, to get bigger inside. Pats deftly grabbed Brown last night...just another in a line of many, many great value picks from Belichick. Goldman's still out there, but our DL's getting crowded now. I'd still love to see Baalke get him, because Williams and Dorsey are on short contracts...and you know Mangini would love to get a real "big" in the middle. I'm fine with Mangini as our DC...because of his experience, savvy, knowledge, etc. And...he'll want to make a splash as a DC to enhance his chances to become a head coach again. So, this opportunity could work well for him and the Niners.

That's a great perspective. We almost got our Wilfork in Shelton last night. Instead, we got our Richard Seymour. But like you said, Goldman is still around as is the 3rd NT we interviewed in Carl Davis.

Bowman is a first class man, who earns a paycheck, he wont say anything negative dispite if he agrees or disagrees with the changes. Personially behind the walls, i dont think alot of players likes what is going on.
Its time to bail ship

Must be consistent and you can't have it both ways. Bowman doesn't have to be candid ("Yeah, a little weird) or informative ("...but we're introducing a new scheme, new coaches, and everything. Everything is new.") or enthusiastic, ("I think that's the great thing about it.") or insightful/revealing, ("It's all of us in the one box, and it's all of our jobs to get it the way we want to get it and be able to perform when the season starts.").

If he is just going to be a professional and be a company man he only needs to say something like this: ("Yeah, we're introducing a new scheme this year and it's our job to get it right to be able to perform at a high level when the season starts.")

I was beginning to feel sorry for Mangenius, with all the offseason losses on defenses, but Baalke smartly addressing needs early in the draft so far. I'm hoping for Ron Darby tonight, I know the 49ers like him, Louis Riddick of ESPN likes him, could be Eric's Asante Samuel for the 49ers. Plus I thought he was the better of the 2 FSU CBs. Watch the FSU-Louisville game from last year (while it was fun watching DeVante Parker go against FSU's secondary, count how many times Darby's man was targeted.)

Ya, I'm not buying that either. If you're stuck in a s**tty scheme, then I can see how players would be happy to get out of it and learn a new one. For the most part, no player wants to go through the process of learning new schemes, especially vets.

I guess if its not broke, lets brake it!

maybe you should offer your services as a media coach to Bowman on what he should and shouldn't say??????????

Haha. Bowman is the leader now and he knows it. Be as transparent as you like.
Anyone think we can potentially have a very disruptive pass rush next season? We have Dockett, Carradine, Dial (who seems more rusher than run stuffer now), Aldon Smith, Aaron Lynch, and now Arik Armstead in the mix?
He's over-rated as a DC - the only year he coached the Pats D it sucked - then again, it was racked with injuries.
