Wouldn't the same logic have applied to Fangio who was coaching in the NFL back since the mid 80s and had largely been a mediocre defensive coordinator who ended up having the absolute best seasons of his coaching career in his mid 50's.

You oughtta change your handle to SusweelsSenselessness. And be sure to pay your royalties to NN for blatant gimmick infringement.
wow didn't expect a personal attack from a hall of famer.
Personal attack ? Umm lol what ?
Maybe you ought to try actually backing up your claims with more detailed posts and support them with factual evidence instead of trolling and waiting around to play the I told you so card.
okay here I'll list them for you
- Downgrade in coaching
- Justin older or probably retires
- Brooks leaving
- Pat and Bow coming back from major injuries
- Starting CBs are not under contract

He's 44 years old.

I gotta hope he is capable of learning new tricks. Hopefully he can apply what he's learned from his previous major coaching gig (HC of CLE in 2010). Improving from middle of the pack to top 10 is easier than improving from top5 to top3 (which is what you are asking him to do), so we'll see. But I agree, the goal is to improve. I'll be happy with maintaining a top 5 ranking.

Was it his association with the Pats that got him a HC job or was he just a good tactician scheming against the opposition? Must have shown something to get picked as a HC. (Although some will say Tomsula did and didn't deserve it).
So far I'm pleasantly surprised at the former HC's who Tomsula has coming in as position coaches. Tomsula is surrounding himself with a lot of experienced NFL minds. Be nice if he can do the same on O

My biggest thing was staying in a 3-4 defense.
Pretty much this ...I don't hate it, but I think we could have done better. Apparently if you don't gush about it your to negative though so what ever.

I think it's a safe hire that serves to not deviate too much from the previous scheme under Fangio. There's no all22 film from 2010, which was the last time Mangini held a HC position.
I'm pretty sure that he soaked up a lot during his stay there, especially in regards to our defense.
If he's smart, he'll keep the things that worked and try to improve on some other things.
I don't hate it, yet.

I loved Fangio as much as the next fan but in 2012 he just would not get up on WR. 3rd and 7, play off coverage with both safeties deep. Completion at the sticks for a 1st down. No one exploited this like Seattle. He started playing a little more press and change it up as of last year. Also, bottom 5 in the league in blitz percentage in the harb era. I refuse to believe that the tendency of not blitzing was not exploited, knowing it wasn't ever coming. The pick at the stick, I almost snarfed my beer when I saw the house coming.
Long story short, if I see more press and we are 20th or so in blitz percentage, I'd be ok with mangina.

Kind of hard when you have been top 5 last 4 years. If there is little to no drop off then its a great hire. Xant please everyone

Good hire
1) He knows the players
2) He has both HC and DC experience
Now with Tomsula, Sparano (who also has head coaching experience), and Mangini...<Insert Godfather theme here>

I'm happy they found someone to take the job. My expectations are really low :)
