Offensive continuity with a young qb is completely different. If Mangini gets a HC gig it means he did a great job which means it was a great hire. Almost any coordinator that does really well is going to get HC opportunities. Not to mention we have a young guy like tarver on the staff that can take over if Mangini leaves.

Mangini has a whole lot to prove so i don't think we should be worried about that. if he turns this defense into the best defense in the nfl then he'll move on in 2 years maybe. but guess what? we have 3 other former defensive coordinators on the team that could just step up and keep the system going

Was just about to say the same.

Great stuff right there!
The biggest and best thing that happened to Mangini was him failing. I think he got a huge ego coming from the Pats with all of the Mangeunuis talk. When he was a HC pretty much all of players couldn't stand him.

Sometimes the best thing for someone to succeed is for them to fail, and be humbled.

Cool stuff... and on top of that, if you listen to his interview on 49ers.com he actually acknowledges this and said he was far too rigid in his approach..he's toned it down and (I believe ) we are looking at a humbled man.

Very much so. Thus game will humble you no doubt. But he really does have the mindset that he's happy to be back in his element and a resource for JT as needed and if he ever gets the call-up to HC job again someday, that's great but if not, he's gonna enjoy the ride of being a DC here and continue to grow and adapt and develop.

Not only is this roster deeper than most may believe, this coaching staff is built to last quite a while...

Yeah but what's he supposed to say?
Seattle and St Louis wants to run. Zona is more flexible and balanced in their offense compared to the hawks and rams. I don't see this defense's ability to stop the run as a strength. We didn't upgrade anything in the middle of our defense since last year. I feel we will be a middle of the pack defense with better numbers against the pass. Dockett isnt an upgrade over smith. Losing willis, borland and mcdonald just hurts.

Discipline is a good point... I feel like we did A LOT of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties last year and bone head things

What?

McDonald was cut and TJE had to play LDE a lot...Justin had one arm again and couldn't even end the season (Carradine did) and our 6'6" LDE had to play NT and we still finished 7th against the run. Now we move Dial back out to LDE (awesome), Williams is healthy at NT (very good NT) and Dorsey/Carradine/AA at RDE...plus Dockett and Carradine sliding inside to pass rush.
