or when he thought it was a nice idea to ask rookie ward to take on marshall one on one. lovely.or to stop attacking and play soft.

THAT was one of THEE dumbest match ups I've ever seen EVER SEEN!!!!

HELLLLLLLLOOOOOO we had Chris Cook and Donate Johnson would would've been a faaaaaaar better match up than Ward.

I'm not nor was I a fan of Fangio.

He did well BUT had fine talent to work with too.

Let's see what he does in Chi-Town

He was too damn stubborn. He has old man syndrome, just do the same s**t even if it isnt the most efficient or effective option(still enough to make a consistent top 5 D though). He only started using rotations out of necessity due to injury. A Great coordinator (emphasizing this so people understand I really, really, really liked me some Fangio) when it came to scheme and coaching, but stubborn and didnt trust any of his players except a few.

It seems like many of these old guys [I'm an old guy too] are some damn stubborn.

The good news, IMO, out w/the old farts and in w/some new and upbeat thinking and coaching.

There's something to be said about Fangio's way at the end of the day...he won the war by being top 5 three years in a row and can anybody figure out how we lead the NFL in TO's with, what, 14 of the 19 players on I.R. being on the defensive side of the ball? That said, if Mangini can also win a few more battles along the way and still win the war, this defense could be dynamic!

he had his most success on that side of the ball. last year was such a trainwreck we even had coaches coaching in places they had no beeswax being in

Not that he's watched any 1on1 interviews with Mangini or read his comments, articles, etc. but the sole purpose to move over to offense was to learn about how an offensive staff game plans and how something as simple as a DL line shift can give an offense fits. Essentially, he's now learned about what drives offenses crazy...like how Tomsula said the offenses that give defenses the biggest fits are those that can play with a high tempo...so guess what what's being address in OTA's? Tempo! The idea was that Mangini was kept on staff over the years in any capacity for just this reason...a move back to defense was always the long-term plan and acted as a contingency plan in case Fangio ever got a HC job. Baalke has done the same with the staff this year...if Geep leaves someday, there will be someone on staff waiting in the wings...if Mangini leaves, we've got 3 former DC's already on staff. If Tomsula gets canned...we've got two 3 former HC's. Same concept for players...if Gore is gone we've got Hyde. If Hyde is gone we've got Davis. If Bush leaves we have Hunter, if T.Smith goes down we've got Simposn, etc.

It's not a hard pattern to see as a 49er fan. Baalke likes to build farm systems within the rules (Practice Squad, I.R./PUP list, sub packages to starter-roles, position coaches to coordinators to HC as best fit, etc.)
