Yes, not yelling but enthusiasm and energy. That's what I see with him. Didn't mean to indicate he isn't smart...just not a quiet intellectual type.

and a good teacher,, that is why we hope all our coaches will be.. to bring out the best in our players.

OMG I JUST COMPARED LOGAN TO WALSH

You should get a promotion for that one.

You mean he passes The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test?
Personally, I think Mangini's style of defense (FLEX) will be awful and all of a sudden, veteran players will be saying that due to the young players, our DC should not get too cute with the defensive play calling..

Coach T will have no choice but to get rid of Mangini and take over as his own DC..

Everything I've read indicates that Mangini will stay with the 3-4 and maybe blitz more than Fangio did. I've never heard Mangini's defense described as a "flex." I thought that was an old Dallas Cowboys thing.

Here's an article that focuses on a game where Mangini's Browns defense went up against Brady in 2010. Reinforces the whole confusion aspect that Mangini refers to.
http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/21350/amoeba-d-a-hard-cell-for-brady-sanchez

ESPN Stats & Information charted Cleveland's amoeba defense, an unusual scheme described as "at least five defensive players in the box with one or fewer down linemen." It's difficult for a quarterback to read at the line, creates pass-protection confusion for linemen and clogs passing lanes.

The results were persuasive, according to ESPN Stats & Information's data.

Patriots passing versus the amoeba: 3-of-13 for 51 yards, zero touchdowns, one interception and an 11.4 passer rating.

Patriots passing versus other defenses: 16-of-25 for 173 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 110.9 passer rating.

"When Tom knows what you're in, he'll take you apart," Browns head coach Eric Mangini said. "We tried to disguise things so he couldn't get comfortable. We had one defensive plan for the first half and an entirely different one for the second half because we didn't want him adjusting at halftime with ways to attack us.

"Dealing with a guy like Tom and an offense like that, not giving him a lot of pre-snap reads, was extremely important. I thought our guys did it well."

The bolded was this plus a more extensive process. Plays were called and reviewed by ALL offensive coaches; Geep, Tom, The WR coach, Solari, Drevno (when here), Roman, Mangini (when coaching TEs) and then Harbaugh and then to Smith/Kaep. Almost every play. Insane.

"32 wham all those in favor say I "

he has no idea what he is saying, he likes to reference very old things to the modern NFL

Wow, this is just exciting! Thanks so much for this...

Yes...Mangini injured Vernon Davis and then for good measure he injured McDonald, Carrier and Celek! The guy is diabolical!

So what??? The guy was asked to do something he had never done before. He accepted the challenge and even if he did poorly (none of us know what effect he had on the TE play) it doesn't matter this year. His expertise is in defense and that is what he is being asked to focus on. The last few years his offensive experience is only going to serve to make him a better DC. If you asked Bill Belicheck to coordinate the offense or Jim Harbaugh to coordinate the defense they would suck at it. Mangini did well his one year as DC in NE considering what he had to work with (Rodney Harrison finished the year on IR and Teddy Bruschi didn't play at all because of a stroke) an over the hill defense that was losing more talent than they were drafting or signing. The fact he finished middle of the pack was a win IMO.

His defenses generally improved during his two stints as the HC for the NY Jets and Cleveland Browns. Belicheck was not happy when he lost him and Mangini is considered to have a genius mind for football in coaching circles. I think he has more talent on this 9ers defense than any of the defenses he's had as a HC. The fact that all he has to do is concentrate on the defense this year will bode well for us as a team. Unfortunately a Top 5 finish in overall defense (which is what I expect provided we stay relatively healthy) means some other team will probably give him another opportunity to be a HC. He will be creative and his schemes are going to lead to a lot confusion and hopefully turnovers on offense. Again for the first time since NE he gets to teach his schemes and concentrate fully on the defense only. You can't do that as a HC. I'm not worried about the defense at all we will be better than good. I am much more concerned with Chryst because I don't know how much input he's had on offense since he's been here. If it was a lot then we may have a problem again.

I like the name. Didn't we run something similar here under fangio and manusky? I remember it being called magic formation or somthing?

Or is that different?

I believe Buddy Ryan used the change in the game plan against Walsh to screw up his use of scripted plays to ferret out the defensive tendencies.

I know Manusky occasionally used the Amoeba defense, but I don't recall fangio using it. I could be wrong though. Just based purely off memory I recall it working well when Manusky used it but I don't have any stats on it

Trust me they are, it's human nature sometimes to try to be "realistic" in times of uncertainty to avoid being disappointed down the road, so they just decide to be disappointed now before it happens "for real".

I fully admit I have no idea what's going to happen this year with the D (or the O for that matter), I don't try to predict, I don't try to prognosticate, I am optimistic though, and I believe we will prove a lot of haters wrong.
