I don't expect the offense to be that much different in terms of scheme, just execution. As I'm all for blitzing and being aggressive, I hope a balance is struck because the offense will take time to learn how to use their new weapons. I don't think they'll be able to get into a scoring match every game immediately.

Agree but my hope is that they stop insisting on running up the middle against stacked defenses. If they incorporate the short passing game to punish defenses it will change the whole effectiveness of the O. In an odd way Gore being gone may help the offense. They won't be tempted to hand off every first down.

Edit: pass to set up the run...like a West Coast Offense!

The lack of production (even going backwards a ton) on first downs has absolutely KILLED this team over the years...it instantly puts CK and offense in predictable sets and made life way more difficult than it needed to be for CK, the OL and the receivers....it put us in 'predictability' mode for defenses who could then just tee off on us and finally...it forced us to press and make critical errors on 3rd and longs and forced our offense to look "clunky" at best and never in-rhythm.

If there is a major emphasis on obtaining/maintaining 4 or more yards on first down, you will see a TOTALLY different offense than in the past.

Just THIS one philosophical change is as big as the type of offense we run (i.e. Bo Schembechler offense vs. WCO)

Bringing Schembechler to SF and calling it WCO was just so sad to me! I tried to believe there was some way they could be joined successfully but one is run to set up the pass while the WCO was always pass to set up the run. Gore was not a typical WCO RB, but was good enough to be successful in any system. Still, the WCO works well with a FB coming out of the backfield as a reciever and the QB on his own in the backfield. Why can't Kaepernick be great in this concept? Just seems ideal for the guy once he gets the short game down. And now with T Smith and a healthy VD the short game should open up.

Teams could play tight against the niners with a bit of help deep in Harbaugh's system. No threat deap once VD went down. I see good things happening on the offense this year!

Completely agree on Gore.

I think Kap is going to shine in this system. It may be a bit rough at the outset but by game 5 he'll really be able to turn it on.

I think we're going to shock the so-called experts and the haters.

Can't wait!

You guys quit agreeing with me...it makes me nervous! LOL!
Was talking to a friend about Niners, Seahawks, and Wilson came up....

He felt teams should blitz Wilson more often. Take away his ability to play street ball.

What do you guys think? I remember whenever we blitzed him in the 2013 NFCC, it was either a sack or a very quick throwaway.

Better wrap the little squirmy turd up if yo blitz him.

That happens to be at the tail end of niners really hard opening stretch. (5 games)

Not sure about Vikings - should be an opening win for niners.

Agree

IMO, they're a good team for us to open up against w/our new offense and new coaches

I was thinking about that as well...why not run blitz with 10 in the box like every other team did to us...it stuffs Lynch en route to instant QB pressure (if it isn't a run).
the guy is as short as Drew Brees and he's not the passer Drew Brees is, so I would like to compare him most to a 6 ft Michael Vick..

Tampa Bay for years gave up thinking of sackin Vick, instead, they just kept him in the pocket with the rush coming up the gut and trusted their secondary to do their jobs.. Vick became unpatient as he just couldn't stay in the pocket and be a passer so he forced himseld to move around and that's when the Tampa Two defense becaame successful against Vick..

I say we do the same think and have TARTT be the spy!!

We don't need a spy..we need better pressure and have him guessing where that extra pressure will be coming from next

Also RW is now way near as talented as Vick

Sounds good! Although the games six through ten are Ravens, Seahawks, Rams, Falcons and the Seahawks again! After the first ten games they will be doing well at 5-5. The last six are very win-able! Will 11-5 be good enough? Hope so!
Like everybody else, i can't wait to see what our new O looks like, incl kap. But what is really exciting is the potential for a balz to the walls jailbreak blitz double the amount of times fangio blitzed. i never complained because we routinely had a top 5 D, but in retrospect, i would grant that lofty "top 5 D" to the talent we had, not the DC...nor his D game plan. All too often you knew fangio was going to the 4 man rush when the situation was crying out for some serious heat on the QB. But no, it just didn't happen. I got so tired of that b.s. from noln of bend but don't break that i could scream. How about 5 guys coming and make the opposing QB scramble for his life? Based on the charts kindly displayed here and other threads, mangini is double the blitzer THAT fangio was. And funny, that seemed like about the number of times we needed to have blitzed when fangio was here. One DC was a conservative, the other a gambler. I like the seocnd idea better. And sure, if you get beat sometime, so be it. But to just give up yard after yrd near end of game....when blitzes were really what we needed....that is what i can't wait to see.
Can't wait to see this defense operate this season. Love the fact that Mangini wants to be more aggressive on defense. Hate watching teams pick us apart & hanging around all game long.
