"Yeah, I love the defense! You said exactly right; he's (Mangini) like a mad scientist. A lot of things are the same exact play but guys are in different spots. So it's hard for the offense to figure it out. A lot of guys have to know a lot of positions...you can't only know what you're doing but what somebody else is doing. It's going to work well for us. I really believe it will."

LMAO. I feel the same...no matter what, this defense won't be boring!
I just didn't see anything from Fangio, then we lost the pass rush from injury..it just exposed his knowledge even more

glad EM is adding new things..so the players can get exposed and get better

The defense blitzing more will also allow the offense to work on blitz pickup, which they were effing horrible at last season.

exactly.
With fangio the last 4 yrs, it sure seemed like there were plenty of times he could have/ should have blitzed. Now if the stats are correct as I read on WZ that mangini in his D days before coming here blitzed twice as much as fangio did, then that would be just about the amount of times that I thot fangio should have blitzed. So, when fangio left and there were wild WZ claims of bad move, or "keep fangio", i wasn't one of them. There is no way i would have wanted him as HC, and am glad he moved on. I didn't think we would get mangini as DC, but everything i have read about his Ds to date makes me happy to have him here. Am looking forward to seeing how he handles this, with lots of untried talent. The DBs are of most interest, in that we couldn't stop a good passing team last yr, and maybe more blitzing, (double last yr) will be the answer to that.

Seriously, that may be the best point of this whole thing. Mangini unloaded on them two days ago and everyone is freaking out. They go in, study, learn and come out yesterday and looked night and day better. Both things (defensive blitzing and winning and the OL adjusting) are great signs.
Sometimes the last guy left... is the best guy. I'm sure Mangini is better than any DC during the Nolan/Singletary days.

Not that anyone here is saying, "more blitzes means a better defense", but I saw this old PFF article that breaks down the percentage in which teams blitzed and how effective they were at it. A nice read even though the stats are from the 2013 season. I don't have PFF so if they did a 2014 study, it'd be nice to see those numbers.

2013 Stats (ranked by most % of times the defense called a blitz).
SF was 30th at 19.67%; SEA was 28th

2013 Team Defense (sorted by yards given up per game) to get a sense of which teams gave up the least yards.
yea not more = better. some = a good thing to have offenses think about on top of the complex coverages. if both the line and the qb have to think that's better for us
past 4 years all they had to do was watch for the stunt otherwise they were ok lol no calling out protections at the line.. none of it.

coincidentally we didn't do much of that on the offensive side of the ball either.

... started a joke
which started the whole world crying
But I didn't see
that the joke was on me ...

" I hope you got Insurance!!!"

This joke is, like, from some Suicide Squad /Smith
Interview with Matt Maiocco on 95.7 The Game and MM was saying the blitzes were coming from everywhere in that first week at TC, causing real pressure on the offense.

Glad to see that Mangini is fulfilling his promise to be more aggressive.

We're definitely going to need to blitz more now lol

Bring the heat!!!!
Personally, I fully believe that (when and if HEALTHY) both Eli, Lynch and my boy Brooks, will make up for Aldrunk's sack total this year..

that's also because I'm expecting a big year from DORSEY..

Considering Aldon only had 2 sacks in 7 games last year, that shouldn't be hard to do. It still sucks, because everything we heard from camp was that Aldon was rounding back into form, ready to dominate, and he threw it all away. Should be a cautionary tale for young players in the future.

he, and many others including Kap, should have had a mentor from day one.

I think the league and the new players would be well served by a Mentoring program by retired vets who can really help these guys with life as an NFL player.

Well, this is more than relevant now.
