Very plausable. But the Best players play, and we haven't seen our rotation yet so we don't know that it will be that drastic of a change. And even if they aren't out every snap, doesn't mean they aren't playing at a pro bowl level.

Oh I agree! Just not sure if anyone is going to get the "glorified" stats...like a CB with a ton of INT's, WILL with a lot of sacks, ILB with 200 tackles, etc. Maybe Bowman? Reid, Bethea, etc. Hmmm.

Agree and they won't be worn out half way through the season.

Most especially playoff time.

I'm still VERY confident we'll be there!

Can't wait to see this defense really come together during the season! If they do get on a roll & begin to create big plays & some turnovers we could be in for a real treat. Hoping it is sooner rather than later though!

I'm with you.

One thing for sure, Mangini will make adjustments faster than Fangio and be more aggressive.

I'm hoping it gets a point where teams fear us.

While I wouldn't read too much into exhibition games, you can kinda see what the plan is for the defense and how each player fits into the gameplan.
Seemed pretty aggressive out there tonight vs last week. As much as I like it we just have to hope it doesnt bite us in the butt. Could literally make or break our season. I guess it's the old play it safe, kick field goals and play the field position game or take risks and try to go for ints and db sacks at the risk of giving up big plays and then go for bigger plays on offense but risk having more 3 and outs and having your defense on the field longer. I'm usually a play it safe guy and what Harbaugh/Fangio did worked obviously but at times I felt we played it too safe and it might have cost us a super bowl or 2.

its just confusion. he wasn't really all that aggressive until the 2nd half. the threat of the aggression caused a lot of the errors on the offense. they even called a timeout because they didn't understand what the defense was doing. several times it looked like a pass blitz and they played coverage and a couple times it was just a run blitz on a run down. if you have to honor everything its hard to dictate what you want to do against a defense.

that's true, a lot of the times we'd send guys like they were going to blitz and then drop them back. even that was enough to cause confusion and a lot of bad plays for them. heck, id take that over base sitting back letting teams pick us apart as we never rotate our dl and they are all dog tired. Don't get me wrong I loved fangio but like I said at times we should have blitzed when our dl wasnt getting there and our failure to rotate our dl hurt us.

this is why i said don't fret over the word pressure a few pages back. pressure doesn't mean sending the house. it means putting pressure on the offense to make a play. we blitzed sometimes. most times we didn't. we ran stunts. we sent safety blitzes. we showed an 9 man front basically then dropped back into cover 3 zone. all designed to make the offense adjust to you. all designed to make them check into max protect and hot reads and in turn puts our db's in position to have 7 people covering 2 routes.. or surprising them with a blitz and having free rusher they didn't account for. there were a few times in the 2nd half the safety came on a blitz after showing coverage in the pre snap.. not being accounted for and running untouched to the qb.

along with rotating players and playing in waves it should be fun. i see why everyone is excited because everyone is going to get to play a lot.

Yeah Mangini's D is looking good. Probably a welcoming change from the Fangio D that some of us got bored with even though has always been top 5. Its just that Mangini's D is taking more chances...whether it pays off or not....we'll just have to deal with it come gamedays. His D though should work because the DL will stay fresh more compared to Fangio's when the DL hardly rotated. It almost feels like the loss of Aldon and Justin, wouldn't be a huge deal.....but we'll see.
^^^ You guys got it. Notice that not a single CB or S was "hung out to dry" yet disguised pressure was coming from all over the place? It's more about creating pre and post snap confusion than anything...hiding that 4th rusher. He'll dial up a few more zero blitzes when needed but also, at-snap, note how many times all the rushers sprint back into coverage. Confusion and dictating the offense. You have to love this scheme!

that's the thing we're not even taking chances lol. we're run blitzing on downs with a high probability of their being a run and that will go with teams that like to run the ball on certain downs and distances (like the cowboys who ran it on 1st and 10 like 85% of the time last year)

and forced them into 3rd and long and either threatened pressure and played coverage. or brought a little pressure to keep things in front of them to make the tackle and get off the field

that's the beauty of it. we're not taking big risks. we're just doing things that make sense.

the cowboys called a timeout because the pre snap read made the offense confused. they didn't know what to do.

they had like 10 seconds to read it and couldn't

Another fine point!

when you show a 9 man front and then back into a full zone that will do it to you. he didn't know what to do.

magini is like the guy in a movie who is outsmarting the police or fbi. he seems to be 4 steps ahead of them because he knows the protocols and procedures and built his plan around counting on them doing what they've been taught to do.

that's the best way to describe this scheme.
