He was not. He was rotating to his hook zone. I broke the play down here:

He could be where he was supposed to but he wasn't even close to touching Dunbar. He has zero closing on the ball and gave up the middle. He got bailed out by the others.

Dang is he ok? Is it serious?

That's all what was reported, if it was worse..I'm sure people here would like to post about it

Boom

This small subtle difference of running to your spot or recognizing a play develop in front of you is the difference between a really good LB and Nick Moody. He was running to a spot even after the pass was completed for a step to two, then he tried to react to the runner with the ball. If the runner wasn't tackled by somebody else, moody would've whiffed. Good defenders break off of where they are going to break up a play or make a tackle, moody just didn't see it until it was passed him, this made him take a bad angle. Oh well, I doubt moody will get much playing time with bowman and wilhoite back, moody point.

My point exactly. Thank you! No need to break anything down when he gave up the middle and got bailed out. Didn't even touch Dunbar.
Our secondary is a bright spot on this team. Acker, Reiser, Johnson, and Tartt are flashing this offseason. Bethea is solid but I wish I would've seen more out of Ward. Brock's health will be a concern until he shows he is back full speed. Besides the side issues, this secondary is legit. If you are Harold and Lynch, you should be excited going into this season. There are some coverage sacks to be had.

We almost forget how young Reid is too...and McCray is a quality S as well.

Good point. Moody did take some false steps reacting to the pass.
Reid + Bethea in the 4-Saftey look:

5. Lewis later offered a clever nickname for the 49ers safety duo of Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt. The defensive backs coach called the high school teammates out of Alabama, "The Mobile Flash," when linebacker Shayne Skov asked which safeties would be playing behind him.
Is it me, or are things seeming to start to line up? DL, DBs, LBs, WRs, TEs, QBs(both), RBs, FB, Coaches, OC , DC, HC and all assts.. GM...all this turmoil, and slowly problems are getting ground out...hmmm...I wonder if ESPN might just be a bit premature?

Even your boy Gabbert looks legit now and continues to build confidence. Obviously we only have one real question and that's about the OL.

Though we haven't done much schematically on offense or defense I've read enough and seen enough to tell we're going to look a while lot different this year.

I feel if the OL doesn't hold up the coaches will scheme around it at least as best they can. On defense, prevent defense will be eliminated mostly and Mangini will set up favorable match-ups vs. leaving players or to dry. Not even worried about having average pass rushers that much.

Lots has to come together but this isn't the young inexperienced team on the surface.
no doubt, NC, from a distance, we are double bat screwed. Put a magnifying glass on it, tho, and I like what I see....ok, laugh but I like us better than last yr. Minority opinion, but I feel really upbeat about our coaching staff. Last yr, I did not. and yes, the OL is stil l the big ??? But I like our OL better than last yr when we couldn't pass block. this yr, I think kap actually has a chance, in large part because our coaching staff is going to help coach around our OL weakness. Last yr OL couldn't pass bloc and that was that. This yr the coaches are going to try and coach around that weakness....exactly what I called for last yr... And it never happened. this yr there is hope.

And by 6-8 games in, watch bell and brown move to starters....Brown makes the rock that anchors the R side, and bell becomes that big TE that nobody can stop.

Well offensively I am excited because we won't be putting square pegs into round holes. Whatever is best for us is what we'll do and there wasn't a willingness to do that the past 4 years.

Defensively I was fine with Fangio except when he would wave the white flag and not do the simple things to win (Will not forgive him for bending over in Denver last year and allowing Peyton do to whatever he wanted.. no press coverage, no blitz just straight up back off let them run wild)

Mangini will not do that. He will not limit the players that play on game day. He will use everyone and keep everyone engaged. He will make adjustments and he is trying to take the ball away from them instead of trying to hold a team to as few points as possible and there is a difference.

Mangini is a smug d******d. But as 49ers fans, he's now our smug d******d. All the guys that came out of New England having worked under Belichick are pretty much pricks(Crennel, McDaniel...etc) but Mangini is the Luke Skywalker to Belichick's Obi-Wan in terms of being an a*****e.

He's the type of dood to keep keep going after a team when he has them down, kicking sand in their faces whenever possible. His aggressiveness will work against him at times and will likely yield some big plays but it will also lead to some big plays on defense and I think you can count on him to not just shut it down if this team is up by say...10 points at the half.

Mangini better come through. Honestly, I don't know what he would do if Bowman wasn't on this team. Bo alone will make things much easier for the DB's. I don't see Moody or Skov doing much more than an average LBer. Borland shined every time he got a chance and that resulted in being one of the top rookie backers in the league. Moody or Skov have not shined. We will still need to look for a true starter next to Bo.
