Not sure I can be a fan of that for too long. Maybe our CBs were doing a good job, but seeing Bridgewater having all day to throw the ball in agonizing.

you will see that more this year from this D.

all scheme. will give holes in the middle at times to "swallow" the play.

frustrating - yes.

results should be favorable though.

when it was time to dial it up he did and that's the most important thing. he didn't stay with that.

more than a few times they baited the vikings into hitting the back out of the flat and rallying to make the tackle.
I loved all the blitzing. Other than when they only rushed 3, they seemed to get pretty consistent pressure throughout the game!

Run defense was good. Tackling was sure handed. Crowding at the line of scrimmage made for some confusion for MIN. Can't wait to see what the safeties were doing. Great debut for Mangini's squad.

there were times bridgewater had a confused look on his face out there.
there were times where he made the right read and the right play.. and it was exactly what magini wanted him to do.

so many times you show 1 thing and he automatically checks it to the flat and the defender is there waiting on it to make the sure tackle.
so much awesome. and he didn't even get exotic.
He called a great game, blitz when you have to...most importantly he didn't go blitz crazy like other DC would...he stuck with the game plan and worked fantastically. Seeing Tartt With that blitz up the middle for a sack was fun to see. Overall great calls, let's keep it going.

Go Niners

So much this. Mangini had him flustered all night long. The only time Teddy got anything going was cheap stuff underneath against soft coverage. Mangini knows Bridgewater is quick to go checkdown. That stuff is easily stopped for minimal games, and we didn't allow anything deep down field. Superb play-calling.
wonder what the gameplan will be when they face a quarterback that consistently beats blitzes. i liked what i saw tonight.

That will be interesting. We're going to do what we do, Mangini likes to bring pressure. He never got reckless with it tonight, and the defense played their assignments perfectly all night long. Vikes took some shots down field but were met by perfect coverage, I was impressed.

I really hate blitzes in general, but Mangini's decision were pretty sound. With his mind and the talent I'm convinced he cant stand up to most offenses in the league.

Same here, not a fan of blitzing too much, and I'm hoping Mangini keeps it under control. It may be a necessity because our ability to get 4 man pass rush is not what it was in the past. Mangini clearly has a knack for getting guys free shots at the QB via blitz.

Overall, our talent level on defense is very good and these guys tackle well and are FAST. We'll be a very good defense.

The keys to blitzing is when to blitz, where to blitz and who to blitz. All you need is for it to blow up a drive once to stall it. Just like when we got penalized on the first drive, we were doing really well but that penalty really changed and stalled the drive, otherwise, there was a good chance it would have gone for a td.

Even if you don't get he sack, i they throw it in the flat and the receiver gets neg. yards or no gain or an incomplete pass you dictate the play calling. Of course if the DB slips or misreads it can be detrimental.

We did get five sacks, not sure how any hurries.

Ben is a better passer than Bridgewater and tougher to bring down, but he is flat foot footed. The thing about BR is that he hangs in the pocket and will take the hit.

Again.. don't focus on the blitz. we weren't blitzing heavy last night. He called blitzes sparingly. its not the blitz that's what's happening, it's not identifying who the 4th rusher will be.

So it's not the blitz its the confusion of not being able to trust what you're seeing.
f**k if he was our DC we'd have two more rings
