Yeah it is. He was awful, just awful with Tampa Bay and slightly below mediocre withthe Redskins. He left the 49ers and went straight off a cliff, showing that they made the right decision to move on from him, regardless of what you think of Reid.
He is just not a good fit for the modern NFL where you really need two safeties that can cover more than you need guys to destroy the receiver over the middle of the field.
Goldson without a dominant pass rush has been exposed badly.
As a bonus with Goldson you get a lot of really dumb, ill-timed penalties. How many times did we see him get flagged for hitting a guy late, hitting a guy out of bounds or getting involved in some nonsense after the whistle. Unnecessary crap that hurt the team on the field.
He played hard and showed a lot of heart but he was never what you would calla smart player.

We are missing Goldson's intimidation factor. Players would have to make business decisions when going over the middle against him. And they did.

Dumbest thing I've ever heard regarding a safety lol....Goldson was regarded as one of the WORST coverage safeties in the league and a PI machine. Also look at what each player is getting paid....Reid and it's not even close.
There are much much more things that go into a good football player than stats.
Justin Smith's best year with us he had only 8 sacks does that mean he blows?? Devin McCourty is one of the best safeties in the league and had 64 tackles and 1 INT does that mean Goldson is better? T J ward just won a SB and was 10th overall at safety on PFF and had 61 tackles with no INTs would you rather have Goldson over him?
Exactly.

How did that intimidation factor work for Tampa Bay when he was drawing countless 15 yard flags, leading the NFL in penalties and missing games due to suspensions?
The days of hitting anything that moves are basically done in the NFL and refs are targeting guys like Goldson especially.
You have to be smarter about how you hit guys nowadays. Even someone like Whitner caught on to that with the Browns last year. Then again Whitner is a much smarter player.

The stats say that last year, Reid was credited with 7 passes defended and Goldson was credited with 3 passes defended.
The rules are making guys like Goldson relics. Big hitter but often lost in coverage. Meanwhile Whitner, who was clearly the more cerebral player to go along with being a big hitter has continued to play well with the Browns while Goldson has gone off a cliff.
If you remember, Whitner was the guy making calls on the back end and often was visibly showing frustration with Goldson being out of position.
If I need to make a 1980s throwback team, I'll take Goldson....otherwise give me Reid.
This just isint true.. Goldson struggled with the buccaneers but he is coming off a tremendous season with the redskins, that is being overlooked by a majority of you
lol tremendous? Based on what?

Yea. The Ravens were so scared of him in the Super Bowl. Seriously, all this "intimidation factor" stuff is nonsense. Our safeties were routinely torched in playoff games and Goldson was a big part of that.
The occasional highlight reel hit isnt enough to cover up his flaws in coverage.

Bingo.....and that is when they had a GREAT pass rush. In the end all this "intimidation" stuff is BS. It comes down to yards on the football field and between his penalties and coverage lapses, Goldson gave up a lot of them.

Well, I will say that that Cowboy's injury and Aldon playing while hurt didn't help. Still, I don't think anyone expected them to be THAT bad once the pass rush took a hit.

I watched Goldson up close for 6 years. Ive seen enough. PFF scouted every one of his plays last year, so ill trust their word over generic tackle totals or INT's. Football is SO much more than simple counting stats.
Thats the thing, people love to critisize PFF because it makes their opinions look bad, yet nobody ever has an answer for WHY PFF isnt accurate, or what is a better system to use.
Goldson graded out at -12.9 last year, which is about on par with the rest of his career. Some people just refuse to admit hes not a good player, even though the grades are right there. PFF isnt 100% accurate, but when youve totaled a -66.0 career grade, it makes the argument that Goldson is a "great" player pretty laughable.

I didn't say we missed his coverage skills.
I believe having a thumping safety makes offensive guys weary and have alligator arms. At the minimum some guys are at least thinking about it, which effects their game.

SEA has been at the top of penalties and they have Thomas and Kam as thumpers and are routinely number one D in the league.
When Kam was homding out that D lost its edge. He'a not good at coverage either but he makes plays like goldson did.
To play a nasty ferocious intimidating D, you're gonna have some penalties along with it.
