He graded out as a -12.9 last season overall, and a -66.0 for his career total. Either PFF is making stuff up, and has NO idea what theyre looking at, or Dashon Goldson isnt a good football player. Ill go with their opinion over someone who thinks total tackles, and INT's are the best judge of ability.

If Dashon Goldson were a WR, he'd be Brandon Lloyd. Looking at the highlight reel alone, you would think that he's awesome.

Then you see how he looks when he doesn't have a top flight pass rush in front of him......

I still say that it should be obvious to fans that the NFL is trying to phase out 'enforcing' as a way of playing the position. My 'eye test' over the last few years tells me that Reid is faster, recognizes routes quicker and is usually closer to a given receiver than Goldson was. The stats say that last year, Reid was credited with 7 passes defended and Goldson was credited with 3 passes defended.

The rules are making guys like Goldson relics. Big hitter but often lost in coverage. Meanwhile Whitner, who was clearly the more cerebral player to go along with being a big hitter has continued to play well with the Browns while Goldson has gone off a cliff.

If you remember, Whitner was the guy making calls on the back end and often was visibly showing frustration with Goldson being out of position.

If I need to make a 1980s throwback team, I'll take Goldson....otherwise give me Reid.

This just isint true.. Goldson struggled with the buccaneers but he is coming off a tremendous season with the redskins, that is being overlooked by a majority of you

lol tremendous? Based on what?

Is this chart all you look at when evaluating talent??

Did you even take the time to watch Goldson play this yr?

yeah and by many he was regarded a good leader, but the secondary was the issue with the red skins, they got torched all year. Dashon has struggled mightily since leaving sf.

Who are the redskins corners?

culliver. Goldson was getting burmed here too though, our front seven covered alot of stuff up

And Cully was overpaid and then blew out his knee again.

So? Brandon Lloyd once led the league in receiving yards.

That was a predictable response, but Goldson was good for multiple years as a 49ers, he was part of the #1 defense that went to a superbowl, and he played a huge role.. he wasnt a one yr wonder
Goldson was Franchised Tagged and paid Top Safety Money the Last 5 Years. No way on earth that Reid ever sees a contract even close to that Value

Your response was even more predictable. Yes, he went to the Super Bowl but look at all the points we gave up along the way. Then look at all the points we gave up IN the Super Bowl.

Funny how Goldson is suddenly exempt from that conversation.

Fact: Goldson was good for maybe two years as a 49er. So the Brandon Lloyd comparison stands.

Fact: Goldson is only "good" when the plays stays in front of him, which allows the highlight reel hits some of you are still swooning over. Problem is, a lot of those hits resulted in flags, fines, and I think even got him suspended once. Meaning, they had little to no effect on the outcome of the game.

Fact: After leaving the 49ers, he got a large contract from the Bucs, who were one of the WORST defenses in the league and they traded him for a 7th round pick. Because that's what teams with struggling defenses do with top-flight superstar players.

They give them away practically for free.

Fact: He's currently a below average safety (statistically) playing on (yet again) one of the worst defenses in the league.

Nobody is saying Eric Reid is the next coming of Earl Thomas. But by no objective measure can anyone say Goldson is the better.

Such a statement just has no basis in reality.

Hell, I'd bet the house that if we offered Reid for Goldson and a pick right now the 'Skins would take it in a heartbeat.

It's called an OPINION and everyone has one. Those who are getting angry over this debate keep at it, it's very entertaining.

LOL that was literally 9 minutes of shoulder tackles. That just proves my point even more.

does pff track how many times goldson made WRs alligator arm a pass?

you can't deny that big hits, or the threat of a huge hit from a known decapitator, affects the way a WR or TE attacks the ball when it's in the air. Goldson made plays even when he was no where near the ball.

for instance...
