When he outplayed Frank Clark who got $63M gtd despite being a total head case. How exactly do you think UFA works for top end pass rushers who play the rush extremely well and are top notch locker room dudes?

The top guys get "overpaid" literally every year. And in this case, Armstead has virtually every metric on his side to say he "does it on his own". He beats double teams at a very high rate (higher than Buckner, but that's another conversation), and wins 1:1 at a high rate (obviously).

Didn't say we had to agree with it. But to pretend these dudes don't get broken off in the offseason is just willfully sticking your head in the sand.

Lets just franchise him and give him another year to prove he is the real deal and decide whether or not he is worth that money. At this point, i wouldnt give him the money just because one of year of success to risky to dish all that money out for. Its pretty much a done deal that he will get the tag tho. FO knows it and so does Arik

I think this is what they ultimately do. They already have the 2020 cap space for it.

But even with a LTD...the Niners will be protected should his play drop off. It's how they've done every major contract since Paraag took over. With that in mind, I think the downside is minimal regardless of the number he comes in at.

AA didn't have a better yr than Clark when Clark was a FA. I understand perfectly how FA works. $80M GTD you out of your damn mind if you think he's getting that

We're going to franchise tag him (even if we plan to trade him), because the comp pick wouldn't be until the 2021 draft. Franchising him gives the Niners more flexibility (unless someone gives up 2x 1sts for him, which would be insane).
