He can't. He's not that good. I think a lot of DT could do what he does with Ford and Bosa on the edge. Notice how almost every interior lineman we plugged in was productive (Day/Taylor.ect..). Maybe not as productive, but they where much lower picks and needed more snaps. Same goes for Buck. Both are good, not great players.

Then why do they produce? AA and DeFo have metrics like double team win rates that show they are on a whole nother level than guys like Day and Taylor. Do they really produce though? Our pass rush went into the crapper after Ford went down. I don't know about all these "metrics," but the only guy I see really making much of a difference in an out of games is BOSA. Maybe Buck and AA can get pass the Oline, but that's about where the damage stops. I don't see many sacks or tfls, so what else is there? Sorry if I'm not impressed that they can chase QBs around in the backfield, while the opposing receiver gets open for the big play. I watch every game and I'm just not buying it. They're fine, but I wouldn't pay them big Bucks.

They thought it would take about 17-18m per year to sign him but that ultimately we would franchise tag him... IDK I thought that was waaaaay too f*cking much. He fell off soo hard after Ford was out and is basically living off the stats from the first half of the season that I just cant fathom him ever getting paid that even from desperate teams in FA. What d'ya think?

See, i think the opposite. I dont' think we can afford to let him go. Sure once the 4th member of our league best DL falls off, everyone else's production falls off. There is something about having 4 all pros on the DL that just really makes it ....well, the leagues best. With Arik, Nick and Buck we have 3 all pros. For us to get the best DL in the league back we need Dee out there. OR...use whoever we have subbing for Dee and rush a 5th guy , Corner, LB, S. If we rushed 5 we would have the best DL in the league once again.

But that , of course, makes our DBackfield vulnerable. Or if Dee is healthy. But you let Arik go and our DL goes down the tubes. We already see that. What we need to do is ether get really lucky in draft with an ER, or get a great DT and let Arik move to ER. But getting rid of him? That just makes no sense to me. $16-17 mil? Sure it's more money than i can comprehend, but that is going rate for a guy that can play ER and DT. Maybe more.

Am i in favor of blowing a bunch of our cap on having the best DL in the league? You bet. Look what it did when Dee was up an playing first 8 games. We were just awesome up front. Spend money on DL and OL and if you happen to have a really talented qB (and JG is), plus a kittle, 3 fine WRs, triumvirate RBs, 3 stud LBs, well there you are. If i am going to scrimp it would be for CBs who are key but not as much as DL and OL.

I don't see us blowing 40mm on Buck and AA alone.

I like AA and Buck. They are critical to our dominate line, but as individuals, not nearly as impressive. I'm all for paying your stars like stars, but I don't think either of them qualify for that title. Maybe as a unit, but I just don't think that's good cap management. I'd rather plug in ST when AA walks and see what we got, letting him play a full season. As long as we can keep ST off the edge, we'll be fine.

Also, no point in paying AA and Buck big money if Ford can't stay healthy. As we've seen, Ford and Bosa are the key.

Or perhaps the money goes to defense and we constantly spend money bringing in guys on offense to keep a steady flow of talent in.

Pro-bowl voting counts: 1/3 for fans 1/3 for players and 1/3 for coaches. Armstead dominated the fan voting and didn't make the pro-bowl. If the coaches and players don't think quite as highly of him as the fans, shouldn't that mean that he is less likely to get top dollar as a FA? What other D-Linemen from other teams are FA's this year?

He needs the Talent on the Dline to actually excel more than the Dline Needs him as a group. I think he can easily get replaced by a Blair, F/A with potential or draft pick as long as we keep BOSA, Ford, Buckner and DJ
