Letting him walk for a POSSIBLE comp pick is nuts. Just awful roster management.
Tagging him would cost 18m, that's way too much. Resigning is also going to be too much unless he takes a discount and which I believe he should. He was a bust until this year. Bosa and Ford (when healthy) took much of the attention which allowed him to be one on one. A new team is going to pay big $$ and want him to be their Bosa, which he's not. If he wants continued success, he stays.
Ford played a handful of games and disappeared when we needed him and he's injury prone. Armstead was a stud all year, I'll take the 18 mil hit. He was incredible this year, it's hard to find interior pass rush.
So would I. Three down players players that can rush from edge in base and inside in nickel are not easy to replace. Armstead has basically become our version of Michael Bennett and he's just entering his prime.
Restructure some deals to create some space. Also knowing he's a Norcal guy and he's really close with Buckner from their days at Oregon does give me some optimism he would meet us half way on a long term deal.

The 2021 Cap is going to explode upwards when the new CBA is done. Too many of y'all are acting like it's 2015.

You guys realize that the new CBA will potentially add tens of millions to the 2021 cap, right?

Potentially??? Sure it will go up but how much is anyone's guess. I still have a problem paying a player big $$ who was only great on his "contract year"

They are also wanting roster sizes to go up to 60 which would cost more money.

If AA leaves it won't be the end of the world. We have depth along the line and if Blair comes back along with DJ we will be fine. Remember this was the first really good year he's had. He was okay the last part of last season but before that he was considered somewhat of a bust. We don't know if he will continue to play like this season or revert back to his old self.

I doubt it. He was already a good run defender. He will get favorable looks on this Dline as you cant lock in on one guy with doubles. Coaches loved him. If we can afford him, he should stay. I'm not banking on the other guys to do what he did. If we won last night, the potential departures would hurt less. We have one year before things get really interesting with our cap.

We won't be able to keep him. Doubtful. Cap isn't going up very much this coming year. Have plenty of depth to fill in there. Arik has a great chance to score a good contract, he needs to go for it.

That roster size increase won't be filled with dudes make $20M. It will be with UDFAs.

If he wants full value then he'll be gone. The ball is in his court. We're limited for cap room and can't pay him what he'll get on the open market.
