Unfortunately we got to move on from Awesome Armstead. As much as I don't want to. Unfortunately this dude will likely cost 15-20 million, it's just too much and we can secure multiple FA for him. Also we have some decent depth behind him for much cheaper.

Of course, the Chiefs will try to do a tag-and-trade deal like they did with Ford, but even that will set a mark.
This is why a Chiefs dynasty (or any dynasty) is so hard to achieve. QB favouritism aside, Mahomes was not the best Chief on the field, Jones was and he's going to walk.
They can't afford him because Mahomes has a mega contract coming up and Watkins is due 20 odd mil next year, just for starters.
That's interesting, because we beat KC if Jones isn't on the field, even with Mahommes and all his magic.

The question aboutarik is this: what can 17 million dollars buy? Is there a free agent that we can get for less money that would provide his Services? He's ranked about 90 by PFF. Anyone out there that could fit the bill?

AA didn't really blow up until surrounded by elite edge talent this year, his contract year. I'm guessing Lynch won't be breaking the bank for him.

It can buy you a top 5 DL in the entire NFL and guarantee you have the unquestioned best DL group in the league.

I suppose the question is how much more cap space we can create over the 21 million we currently have. McKinnon needs to take a big pay cut or be cut, Goodwin too, does Staley retire and there are more? Essentially it is impossible to keep 4 or 5 1st rounders and pay them appropriately on the Dline long term so realistically Armstead will move on. Buckner and Kittle need extended and Thomas has a shot at starting in place of Armstead is the most likely scenario.

That elite talent is still going to be here. Why disrupt a great thing? I get only so much $ to go around but I'd make cuts elsewhere. A dominant d line can even make Mahomes look average.

They really don't. They can afford him just fine, especially if its a one year tag which has him on another contract year and won't affect long term financial flexibility.

Not just that but the pass-rush didn't sustain when he was playing *without* Ford and Bosa. At least Clowny can chase down Russ Wilson and the other midget QB in Arizona.
Lol really?!?! Clowney can't stay healthy, and shows up for 2 games a year. Armstead had more production in one year than this loser has had in a year.
No thanks on Clowney

Clowney is more of a pure edge while Armstead is hybrid DL that you can move inside and out. He was making plays even when it wasn't showing up on the boxscore. Take his versatility, progression as a player and his chemistry with Buckner, I'll happily take him back.

He had 3 total sacks on the season. He wasn't running down much and its not like he was dominating against the run either.
They need more depth at edge in case Bosa or Ford go down as well as having a better rotation but that can be managed cheaply via the draft.
