This. Bad GMs pay guys for what they've done. Good GMs pay guys for what they will do.

Niners and Redskins are two different teams
The dude finally develops into the player that Trent Baalke envisioned and people want him to walk? What the f**k is with you guys? Are you suffering from CTE as well?

Watch this dude's sacks. They weren't cheapies or fluke sacks. He got better--a lot better. If you want to attribute part that to scheme, coaching, surrounded by better talent, etc. it really doesn't matter because none of those variables are changing next season. The scheme ain't changing, his coach ain't changing and teammates aren't changing(may get better, actually). But the fact is he got a whole lot better this year. Dude busted out an arsenal of new moves this year.

Haynesworth was an idiot who went to a crappy franchise. Arik is very humble and hardworking, he's just hitting his prime too. Pay the man and keep this D together for as long as possible.

Well said. Makes no sense at all.

What makes even less sense is the contingent of Niner fans who say "let AA walk and Solomon Thomas can fill his role." LOL x1000.
I've been very critical of Arik since he was drafted. He under performed at Oregon (for a 5 star recruit) and was average at best his first few years with the Niners but started to come on at the end of 2018. 2019 he blossomed into the player that he was supposed to be. I don't know whether it was because he finally got it and let his talent come out, good coaching or a big push for a big contract. Arik doesn't seem like the type that just plays for money so I'm hoping he 's the guy we saw this year going forward. Keep him if we can find a way.

This.

Armstead was flashing throughout in his first few years. He wasn't consistent and injuries probably played a major role in that but the talent was undeniable, people just doubted that he'd ever be able to get healthy for it to finally pay off. Thomas rarely flashes, he's been a solid depth guy but you can find solid depth guys for dirt cheap, what you can't find easily are 26 year old linemen with Armstead's size and length that can play inside and outside, that have developed into complete DL's that can win in a variety of ways and are equally effective against run or pass.

We saw the flashes throughout, he was always pretty dominant against the run when healthy but he struggled so much with injuries and the absolute dearth of talent around him at times that he was easily overlooked. In 2018 you started really seeing him putting it all together. Now you see close to what the final product looks like and the final product looks damn good.
Can they franchise him as a DT? Or maybe he agrees to a long term deal with bonuses. We've seem the difference a great front 4 has in helping the secondary. If I'm the GM I'd find a way to make it work for at least one more year.

100%.

I'm an Oakland A's, I don't want to be rooting for two teams that develop players only to let them go and ball out elsewhere.
