Tag him, then trade him for some draft picks...Lynch has a big gap after the 1st rd (to the 5th) & making that deal should go a long way toward closing the gap. Much as I'd like to see him stay, re-signing him would make it very tough to sign anyone else. Ward wants to stay a Niner...and with the additional picks Armstead's trade could yield, Lynch can sign/draft more DL talent/depth as well as Jimmie.

You can't trade a player if he is not in contract. He is a free agent .

I wish AB81 was still around. He said months ago this could be done and left all of the breadcrumbs as to how. As for this tag and trade stuff, it's silly. That's a last resort if the two sides can't come to an agreement which I doubt will happen because AA has given every indication he wants to stay. What player has anyone ever openly said they would play on the franchise tag? AA wants to be here. We can get this done. If we end up trading him (which we can't until he's under contract), it won't be this year.
