I just read the article at the top of the home page about trading AA. His suggestion is franchise him and then trade him to a team willing to give him a long term contract. He said he thinks he would fetch a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Miami is loaded with picks this year (3 in 1st and 2 in the 2nd). A young rebuilding team like that may be a willing trade partner. They have the draft choices and AA is only 26, so he could help anchor the D for a few years. If we could get a 2nd for him and trade back and get 2 more 2nds or a 2nd and 3rd, we would have a decent shot at filling some holes.

That would be awful. We are worse off with that move, both long term and short.

I mean if signing him LT isn't an option, tagging and trading him is the 2nd best option IMO.

There's a huge cap risk if no takers though.

3rd would be to let him walk, pay all our own FA's and get a 3rd round comp next year for AA walking. Sign Joe Thuney.

Not to mention he'll probably get the DE franchise tag versus the DT tag price

Then people would shift back to "they don't have a pass rush" gripe
Also I wouldn't touch a NE OL. They always seem to Be a product of that system

All fair points.

There will be takers. Frank Clark netted a 1 2 and 3 swap.

Everyone has money in FA so DEs that are open market will all get paid. Some of the teams with need will be left wanting.

Let's hope you're right. But if nobody bites that's an instant $19 or $21M.

I want AA back but that gripe wouldn't be true barring injuries. Buckner, Ford and Bosa. The 4th guy could be Ronald McDonald and we'd still have the best 4 man front.
Ford could be a ghost. We need a finisher opposite bosa for min 600 snaps next year including playoffs (no bye). I scared dee just cant make it.sux but we have to plan for reality not webzone moonbeams.

This is key. I rewatched the first Bucs game and Ford and AA basically split even in snaps. Each had a sack and Ford played some base too. If Ford was healthy and reliable as a 50-60% player, we certainly could move on from AA easier...have players like J.Taylor, Street, Blair and Moore take the base downs and split with Ford.

But since one can't count on him, it puts the FO in quite a quandary.

And like you said, we still need insurance for Ford. That 31 pick might be used on a speed rusher...it makes the W9 complete.

That's true, there is better pass rush talent now. But AA plays a huge role in what this DL does. I think it would be a mistake not locking him up

It's a very legit concern. Unfortunately.
I still wonder if this was a 'contract year' improvement or did he just finally figure it out and learn how to play. Was it because we added Bosa and Ford or did AA just mature. I have to wonder because we may be giving a lot of money to a guy that was a one year flash. I never saw this level of play from him , even in college until this year. Will it continue? My heart wants to say yes but my mind is always cautious when I see a player have an abnormal year.

I'm pretty sure a team can rescind a tag before a certain deadline as well
If DJ Jones medicals show no damage, I'd let Armstead go, and lock up Jones. Jones has been getting better every year, and should be cheaper if he does a contract now. Draft an edge rusher in the draft, and rotate him with Ford and Bosa.

Mmm. I want to keep AA but this would be a fair plan B. When you say "let him go" do you mean just let him walk?

Its nice to have one guy play edge and tackle though. A creative dc can disguise a lot of assignments with that. Still we need to think how we manage our front carefully. We cant make any moves that cut down depth.
