Somebody will. It just depends how many team are interested. If its only 2 or 3 teams, that will bring his trade value down. Would we be okay with a 3rd? At that point u have no choice but to say okay.

I'm not as confident as most. He's not an ER. He's a quilty DE who got all 10 sacks inside the T's with an epic support cast.

We gave up a 2 for Ford...the leagues top 3 ER in a career year.

You're going to get a 3rd next year for him in comp. So it better be a high 3rd at the least THIS year.

And I don't know if that really happens knowing we're cap strapped and can't afford the $19 or $21M cap hit if nobody bites. I think smart FO's just wait it out and bank he'll be free in FA soon.

That's not accurate. Some of his sacks came from the edge as well.

All inside the T's. Not coming around the edge outside the T like Ford.

Yeah, that was from a discussion a couple pages back...playing that scenario through if the FO does move on from AA and what that might look like.

AA is a really good player. He's added that man strength and more pass rush moves and is highly motivated. A great teammate. I'd hate to lose him, honestly but...

How do any of those people qualify as "replacements"? Because they're human and can physically line up in Armstead's spot?

Yeah, so is Robbie Gould. He also qualifies. But he's a trash DL just like the rest of those guys. So he can't be a replacement with any practicality.

Doing ANYTHING other than signing Armstead to a LTD makes the Niners worse. No trade for picks makes this team better.

Just cause you're not getting 10 sacks doesn't mean you're trash as a run defending DE. If Ford's healthy all year in his 3rd down role that'll more than make up for losing those 10 sacks. Or even if Ford gets you 8 and Blair or someone else rotating in gets you 4. There's your replacement of his production.

Meanwhile Thomas/Street/Taylor are your run defending DL in Base along with of course Bosa Buckner and Jones. The point is, just because Armstead is better than those guys doesn't mean that we can't lose him and still maintain a great defense.

Also I'm not saying I want Armstead to leave. I'm just saying if he leaves, we have guys that can play the run in base and we have guys (and can still add guys) to get the edge on 3rd down.

Not saying those guys can replace his production. Merely that they can be solid run defenders in base, and Bosa, Ford, Blair and possibly Damontre Moore or a FA like Vic Beasley or a draft pick are our edge rushers. Also not saying we wouldn't be slightly worse off if it happened this way. But we'd still have Bosa Ford and Buckner getting after the QB on 3rd downs. We'd just have to find one more solid guy or two to rotate and there's your rush package.

Again overall if we keep Armstead I'm happy. Just saying if we decide to move him, yes our DL will probably be a little worse than it was this year. But that can be offset if Ford is healthier, and with the addition of another speed guy in a similar mold (to Ford). Plus obviously ideally we're improving our team at other positions like OL, DB, etc
