Armstead has figured the game out and he is healthy. The game obviously has slowed down for him. He also had a lot more talent around him to unleash him. Seattle would love to have him. He should be signed. He does need talent around him to be this effective. He fits perfect with the Niners. He is excellent on the edge against the run. He is a must.

I can understand being a little skeptical when a player has a career year when his contract is expiring. We've seen it happen often in all sports but you can't say for sure if that's the case here. The coaches see the way these guys practice and can give a better read on whether it's a case of finally getting it of just playing for the money. He actually doesn't seem like a guy that plays for the money. Having better players around him had to help and knowing his role was a factor too.

That's because very few actually watched him in 2018. He was playing at a high level then also. I said then that it would be a good time to extend him but got blasted for it or mainly just fell on deaf ears. If people hadn't been prejudice by his first couple of years they would have seen it.

Don't look now, but when is our DL the best in the league? When it is Nick Buck Arik Dee. When one guy is gone, the other three are not best in the league. When Dee was out which was a lot playing only 226 snaps, the other 3 guys are great , but as a unit, the sacks and pressure just isn't the same. Take Arik out, and same thing happens. Take buck out, same thing. Take Nick out, same thing. We damn near played most of 2nd half of SB with Solomon and Zettle . Result? Well you saw it.

It's like a bunch of vines all wound together into a really stout club. 1 vine alone won't do anything. 2, same thing.. 3 is better, but get that 4th guy in there and BINGO, best DL in the league, and best i have seen ever on the 9ers going back 40 some yrs. So yeah, with Dee out the other three aren't any where near as successful.

It is also why i hope Dee is in the 500 -600 snaps range this yr like we anticipated, except for the damn hammy complicating the tendinitis. If not able to go but 1/4 of the time, then we need someone who can go most every snap. And therein is the problem...that 4th guy has to be as good as the other 3. And if not , we just have a DL...not the best in the league. And those who complained about AA not being as good when Dee is not in...correct. But it is same for every guy out there. We also missed DJJones at SB time, and he could have taken up some slack. But playing solly and Zettle....that doesn't make our DL special at all.

This. And that's coming from someone lazy so he knows it's true.

I don't get why people want to see either AA or Ford gone, with those 2, plus DeFo and Bosa we have the best DL in football, and add in DJ Jones, and we have 5 studs IMO, plus Kwon, Warner and Dre make our front 7 formidable, just need to shore up the secondary.

I can only speak for myself, but I am just tired of relying on unreliable players. Ford is a stud when healthy. But that is like 5 games a season.

Check out the Clowney thread in nfl talk, he thinks Clowney is a top 3 DL in the league and would take him over anyone on our DL. Seahawks fan most likely or a PBM.

The only thing i see that works is to keep AA, Buck, Nick together, and a)if we keep Dee, we have to get another guy for RDE that can play and play well, as a fill in when Dee is out with knee or hamstring. Or b), take the hit of $4.5 mil on the cap and release him . Moneywise, that doesn't make sense, so the only way we can go into this season knowing we are ok at RDE is to bring another guy in who plays like a healthy Dee.

The downside? When was the last time you saw a DE with Dee's talents available in fA or draft? Yeah, on the 12th...of never. So until this is sorted out we are not going to have that best DL in the league until we figure out the Dee thing. And getting rid of Arik is just plumb stooooopid. We need to work on RDE and Dee in particular, but my guess is just a continuation of both problems. If he suddenly. Is ok, fantastic. Just hard to imagine that ,...for me.

Alternatively , DJJOnes comes back and plays 3t, and Arik moves to the outside. Unfortunately, as we saw in the SB, we need good substitutes also, or you see our great DL get blown. By 2nd half, not only was Dee out but we had another guy out all the time also, altho i think that was rotating between buck, nick and arik. So we have to ahve yet another DL to spell our front line guys. This is not an easy fix.
