Could the sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal and then trade him? I'm not sure if the NFL allows that but I don't see why they wouldn't. They would need to have an agreement in place with a trading partner before they did it so they didn't get stuck with the contract. They do this all the time in the NBA.

Then we are way overpaying him. Imo, Lynch will not do that, so our only trade leverage is built on the bluff that we will.

Huh? You can't trade a guy that's a FA. They have to tag him before

Yep, they need to sign him, trade him, or tag him today, or see him walk. Like I said, jmo, but I don't think Lynch puts us at AA's mercy to over pay him on the tag.

It's about the cap and how much it hurts signing other players. A longterm contract he perhaps doesn't deserve (comparatively) is what would really hurt.

If he's the 1 player we cant lose that's due to be a FA this year,...then he deserves the money he gets for that 1 year.

As Clint Eastwood said to the kid, "We all got it coming, kid". Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

Yeah,...it's about how much it hurts us signing other players. Right? How much would a 1-yr franchise tag hurt that effort?

Calais Campbell is still a great player but he'll be 34 when the season starts. Armstead will be 26. Gotta keep things in perspective. Same way we got a 33 almost 34 year old Anquan Boldin for a measly 6th round pick.

He's 33 and has a cap hit of $17.5M in his last yr of his deal.

He's also been an all pro and made 5 probowls and had 31.5 sacks over the last 3 seasons compared to AAs 5 year career of 19
I'd expect a long-term deal to go down within the next 48 hours for AA and a host of these players signed too: Kendrick Bourne, Ben Garland, Levine Toilolo, Damontre Moore & Ronald Blair; right of first refusal for Matt Breida tendered at $2.1M. No extensions for Kittle and Buckner until next year (or in-season deals). Ward and Sanders to test the saturated FA market...possible they both come back. Same with Elijah Lee, Jason Verrett, Sheldon Day and Shon Coleman. No outside FA's this year.

Well, another poster suggested he could get a 5 year deal at $60-70m, or $12-14m per, and I couldn't quibble with that, so he'd be overpaid $5-7m this year. That's a lot, and I think that would hurt Lynch's plans more than he'd accept.

According to the cap we only have 13 million to play with for 2020

So then he just walks for nothing in 2020? I find that a bigger loss than at worst having to pay a top end DL a high salary for a yr on a SB team

They can create cap space multiple ways. The cap is suppose to go up like $40M in 2021 with the new CBA. Perfect time to sign him and have the big part of his cap hit in 2021
s**t if we aren't gonna AA LT how about they talk to the Jags...they got a s**t ton of draft picks and their creating all kinds of cash.

Preach it.

Sorry he's 34 and the ravens have to pay his full salary this yr. he's coming off his worst season since 2015...one is coming to the end and the other is just starting to get into his prime.
They may be banking on FA being delayed. Busy in talks...
