Hopefully he works out. Not sure he'll ever have big numbers though. Sounds like his job is to take up space and stop the run.

Baalke picked the player I did not want us to pick. That, by the way, means absolutely nothing.
How he plays will mean something.

I have a feeling we dealt because Miami took DeVante Parker, and maybe he was our real first choice.
But getting an extra 4th this year, and an extra 5th next year is great value for 2 spots.
I still didn't see how Balmer was a good fit in our defense. And while I picked AA in my mock, I mostly picked him b/c he's a perfect fit in our 3-4 and 3-4 DE's that can play the 4 and 5-tech's ARE much harder to find than say, an ILB. I think we wanted Shelton but Goldman and Davis are still available as well and we've met with both so...DGB.

It's a pick that landed the team 2 additional picks. Judge this pick when you see what is done with those picks. Yes, Gordon will have more of an immediate impact but he's a RB. Good rbs are a dime a dozen.

True, plus if you believe Hyde is your guy, you don't take a back in rd 1 then.

I find it hilarious that even after the Aldon Smith pick thats fans hated and threw a fit about, there are still people convinced that Armstead is a bust before hes even set foot in the facility.

naw its nothing like the Aldon pick. The Aldon pic caught a lot of people off guard who didn't look past number 10 on the standard draft board, but once they did some research and realized his potential and story, he got the benefit of the doubt. Arik on the other hand just seems soft to me. Tons of potential and no real heart for the game. He might end up OK, but thats not what stars are made of. Stars eat and breath football. They want to be the absolut best. They are psychos about training and being the best. This dude seems way too happy and giggly. Seems like he's just along for the ride. Obviously, thats just my opinon, but we'll see.
Marc Helfrich mentions how huge it was that AA gave up on his dream of being an NBA player to focus on football.
Not sure how that rings with me.
Sounds like he was too fat and mediocre to play pro NBA, so he settled for football. Notice the phrase "dream of being and NBA player." He didn't give up basket ball for "the dream to play in the NFL." I'm sure I"m reading too much into it, but its a moot point for me.
Even though he grew up in Sac, he said he really didn't have a favorite team growing up, but he kept an eye on the Niners. WTH is that? ha...then again, when he was going up the Niners absolutly sucked...LOL

I'm not a fan of the pick, but I'm willing to give the FO the benefit of the doubt when it comes to our DL position. They hit on Smith, McDonald, and Dorsey while Williams, Dial, Carradine and others show great promise.
The Dockett-Armstead combination makes me think the 49ers are trying to duplicate the Dockett-Campbell pair the Cards have had for a long time.

takes up space? sound like ngatta and j smith. im down. let the man step foot on the field before saying he sucks. a huge 21 year old with tons of talent coming to a team that has probably the best dline coach in the league as a head coach and two career studs to learn from in J smith ( i think he'll be back) and dockett. I think he'll be alright.
