They weren't kidding. Armstead is all projection after spending some of his college career tooling around with basketball, and then generating little in the way of quantifiable production on the football field. He's a mountainous 6-foot-7, 292 pounds, but underwhelmed at the Combine. Baalke will have to hope he's the smartest man in the room on this one.
No risk, no reward. At least that's what the thought was when drafting Armstead. He's obviously a project, to Baalke and Tomsula's own admission. Not exactly what you want in a 1st round pick, but he has rare physical tools. Could be a dynamite player, or a waste of a pick. It's definitely not a sure thing.
I appreciate all the optimists talking this guy up, but let's not pretend he's a sure thing. I believe this FO is one of the best, but they have and will make mistakes. I just hope this is not one of them. I'm gonna trust Baalke and Tomsula on this one, especially the latter. Tomsula is the d-line maestro.
