True, plus if you believe Hyde is your guy, you don't take a back in rd 1 then.

people who say we gave up Gordon for Armstead are ridiculous.

What most people fail to understand that after the first 10-12 picks, every player selected is a risk. Sure, some players are less of a risk than others but the Niners took the best available player at a position of great need. McDonald is gone, Justin likely as well. Do we even truly know what we have in Carradine yet? NT is a need as well but with what the Niners lost, DE in the 3-4 was the team's biggest need coming into the draft. We need to add depth at WR, DB and MLB and there is still plenty of talent left for rounds 2 and 3.

Just to clarify. He was Mayock's number for interior lineman on Mayock's board.

Thanks!

I find it hilarious that even after the Aldon Smith pick thats fans hated and threw a fit about, there are still people convinced that Armstead is a bust before hes even set foot in the facility.

We genuinely have a very embarrassing fan base at times. No doubt! Do people realize how hard it is to find DE's who can play the 4 and 5-tech in OUR 3-4?

Agreed. But I do have concerns. For every 1 JJ Watt, there are 10 Margus Hunt type players out there. I have extreme reservations about this pick, but I have faith in our FO and coaching staff to make him a contributor.

Here's what it should come down to for every fan, period. Name one DL who hasn't excelled here (via draft, UDFA, FA)? One.

exactly. if its one group we should never worry about with tomsula on board, its D-Line.

Not saying thats not good, but he was the 15th pick of the draft. Imo, you dont draft on potential at that point. I'd prefer they go for solid or great, not boom or bust. I think Baalke has done this a lot with the first pick.

P.S not saying age isn't a factor, but sometime guys develop quickly and never grow from there. Remember the one kid the Texans picked a year or two before Watt.I think his name was Okeye or something. He was a 19 year old giant. Everyone was thought in a couple of years he would be unstoppable. Where is he now? He might be solid, but he's certainly not a house hold name.

I have concerns about each and every player we draft. I am concerned about his numbers at Oregon.

My concerns will not be either alleviated or aggravated by discussion.

We need to see him play.

At this point, Arik Armstead's future has not been written.

I offer him welcome and the best of luck.

Agreed. Time to and get ready for day 2.

Go Niners!
"he hasn't proven that he can consistently bend the edge as a pass rusher"

"not the most impressive run defender"

"struggles when he plays too high, allowing offensive linemen to get under his pads. He's then unable to extend his arms and gain leverage; he'll struggle to disengage and lose sight of the ball-carrier"

"He has a very good first step but doesn't showcase the type of flexibility that one usually sees from elite pass rushers"

These are all quotes about Aldon before the 2011 draft
Baalke isn't even trying anymore, he's going off mock drafts this year.

Sad!
Safe pick, but not the best .... honestly we souldve moved up... or drafted a CB
