We'll see what happens but I'm pretty underwhelmed with the pick. Anyway with guys this tall you just hope they don't struggle keeping their pads low.
Hopefully a vet like Dockett can help bring him along.

since the highlights suck online, here we go. Baalke said this was one of his best:
1:05 - Beastly
2:14 - Kinda cool, sheds some blocks to stop the run, but they still convert
2:21 - Ugly, he takes a weird angle (might've just not had a chance) but still helps finish
2:32 - Right place at the right time and puts a nice shoulder into it to stop the run.
2:58 - Hmm. Had a chance.
4:18 - Sort of ugly, I don't know what gap was his, but it seems like he missed a big opportunity and let the RB run from his endzone for a big gain
4:28 - gets some pressure, but not quick enough to prevent completion for a nice gain
7:25 - Diagnoses the play quickly, sets up... and then kind of falls on the RB and gives up the conversion.
7:38 - Swims (or something) to get inside and gets enough pressure to save a TD
7:53 - Beats his blocker but watches the runner go by.. maybe by design
8:23 - Some pressure, maybe helps an incompletion (fumble?)
8:53 - Seems pretty ugly for run stopping.
9:04 - Runs right at him for conversion.
9:28 - Nice play. Fumble recovery.
9:54 - Runs near him again for conversion.
10:12 - Loses the QB? and gives up 3rd & 1 conversion.
10:46 - Lineman took out his legs, fell down, eyes fell off the QB, and sort of .... lol, another conversion.
10:58 - Ugly.
11:05 - Tracks the run and stops it.
11:27 - Is around the stop.
.... and for the rest of the video they're just running the clock down.
I tried to just find the interesting/impactful plays. Everything else on the video was him double/triple teamed or they pretty much ran away from him. I can see how people watching his tape might thing "oh, man, he's just not giving it his all", but to me they seemed sort of calculated.
I mean, he could have given 110% and been more "in" some of the plays, but as an Oregon fan I always wondered with the DL and the offense's high-pace, and how much they work towards cutting corners where possible to conserve energy, even as notorious as Oregon's practices are for getting players in top shape.
Bump
A bunch of those he's being double triple teamed

I find it hilarious that even after the Aldon Smith pick thats fans hated and threw a fit about, there are still people convinced that Armstead is a bust before hes even set foot in the facility.
We genuinely have a very embarrassing fan base at times. No doubt! Do people realize how hard it is to find DE's who can play the 4 and 5-tech in OUR 3-4?
Agreed. But I do have concerns. For every 1 JJ Watt, there are 10 Margus Hunt type players out there. I have extreme reservations about this pick, but I have faith in our FO and coaching staff to make him a contributor.
Here's what it should come down to for every fan, period. Name one DL who hasn't excelled here (via draft, UDFA, FA)? One.
Baalke went with his staffs strengths and went DL. Cant fault that.

What I would like to know is when these leaks are going to stop . Clearly someone was leaking that SF was interested in AA , then coupled with all the other bs leaks over the last year +...some folks need to just keep their mouth shut

Speaking Thursday, both 49ers GM Trent Baalke and coach Jim Tomsula called No. 17 overall pick Arik Armstead a "project."
They weren't kidding. Armstead is all projection after spending some of his college career tooling around with basketball, and then generating little in the way of quantifiable production on the football field. He's a mountainous 6-foot-7, 292 pounds, but underwhelmed at the Combine. Baalke will have to hope he's the smartest man in the room on this one.
No risk, no reward. At least that's what the thought was when drafting Armstead. He's obviously a project, to Baalke and Tomsula's own admission. Not exactly what you want in a 1st round pick, but he has rare physical tools. Could be a dynamite player, or a waste of a pick. It's definitely not a sure thing.
I appreciate all the optimists talking this guy up, but let's not pretend he's a sure thing. I believe this FO is one of the best, but they have and will make mistakes. I just hope this is not one of them. I'm gonna trust Baalke and Tomsula on this one, especially the latter. Tomsula is the d-line maestro.
Hearing them say project is not what I want to hear, but there's no denying it. He had limited production. But our Dline is pretty deep and Arik has a little time to learn.
I have said this before, that I believe a good 3/4 D has great LB's. We already have Aldon and Lynch and hopefully Bo comes back strong. I would like more depth at the LB's and Arik can learn to stop the run and draw some double teams.
I don't know if the term project and time to learn is something we needed with 15th pick. I am fine with the trade down for 2 picks but we could of took a WR,DB or LB with way more upside and start now talent. Still think Baalke is not the genius he or other board members think he is. jmo guys

Yeah, I expect people to call out the first 3 picks or so. At that point it's usually obvious. But to be sitting at #15 and some douche nozzle guarantees the pick 48 hours ahead of time is a little concerning. We used to be super ninja, now there's leaks everywhere.

^^ I think it was Jed York that let it out of the bag on twitter minutes before the pick was announced.

He did, but even 48 hours before the draft there was a story on Bleacher Report that guaranteed we would pick Armstead, citing "sources close to the team". You usually don't see that outside of the first few picks.

They got rid of Harbs and staff but obviously the rat is still in the building. This needs to stop.

Point em out. I was just going for points of impact. This is the first time I've ever really pieced apart a film. Set it up for Y'alls viewing.

They are talking about Armstead's size and skill set to replace Ray Ray. The side of the defense that isn't sexy, get after the qb. But without guys like Ray Ray and Brooks to set the edge against the run, your defense gets gashed.
They project him to be better than Ray Ray
