But, am I the only one here who thinks he's been at least serviceable? He's looked like a solid rotational player. Solid against the run, has his moments against the pass. Like if we drafted him in the 4th and he was playing like this people would be pretty happy.

He is serviceable. No matter what he does though, people will hate him

Truth!

But he should. This is the NY Giants. I'm always amazed by the sports press giving credit to players that should be doing their jobs against less talented players. A DT of his size and strength and draft position against a OG 1:1 ..... of course. The real question is can we improve the position given the $ invested? I ask the same of Mitchell.
Good post NinerGM!

if we can't get anyone better then keep him.

ER must be our #1 priority - Period.

If it wasn't there's a number of DL guys in the draft who could come in and out perform AA from day on.e

But DL isn't our #1 problem - it's ER.

So we have to see who we can grab in the later rounds or in FA to replace AA.

If we can't get a better replacement - he stays.

Armstead is giving us roughly the production you'd expect for a low end third round pick as a 3-4 DE

Exactly on point!

HOW MUCH more do we need to see?

We have a rookie (Julian Taylor) who almost outplayed every DL we have during the preseason and should see some action now so that we'll know if he's worth to keep next year..

I really don't understand why we keeping him on the sideline..
Really makes no sense no to play Taylor

Agree - totally perplexing.

Unless - it's the plan to lose games.

Between all the guys we have, including ST, AA's replacement is on the team. If we don't already have a replacement, then something us seriously wrong with our FO.

and this exactly why it bugs the heck out of me as to why we haven't given Julian Taylor some playing time...

What's there to lose now??

How much worse can it get if he plays and turn out to be just another DL who is just SERVICABLE??
For those that care, AA's pass rush rating at PFF has risen 4 points over the past several games. With over 200 snaps, it is hard to move up too much but it shows he has been improving, at least by their metric. At the same time, his run defense ranking has also risen. He is now second only to Calais Campbell among ERs.

Pff is not consistently reliable, such as giving Witherspoon a high rating despite visible flaws on film identified by actual former NFL players. But I'll say it looks like AA is playing better than earlier this year. He is a classic setup/cleanup player. Push pocket, force quarterback outside. Or, if there's an edge rush, he can collapse on a quarterback trying to step up. But he lacks the finishing burst to close on any mobile quarterback for a sack.

He was always a good fit for BE in this scheme or end in a 3-4.

But it would be cool if someone did a film breakdown from earlier in the year to his most recent play.

tanking 101.

you can't OBVIOUS tank because Goodell will take away that pick as punishment if need be. If it is hardcore obvious , letting everyone know that you are tanking , Goodell has the power to take the pick away.
Uh oh...here comes the start of the, 'injury-for-$9M' move!

Defensive end Arik Armstead is a new addition to the limited list.
