I say we extend him to Aaron Donald type of money.

I'd even consider going up over Mack's contract. In a passing league, it's very hard to find a run stuffing edge setter these days.

The league is circular though. Teams are seeing all these new rules favoring the pass and are going to say JH ball is the answer. We'll be a 1 step ahead.

Yeah those dudes are extremely valuable, its not like you can find those in the mid rounds of the draft.

Throw in the belly rub and he's just on another level.
Suggest seeing how TC goes and who is best of our 4 or 5 or 6 DTs. Then see what market is for one or two guys we don't plan to keep. If somebody really wants Solomon for say, a first rd pick, or AA for something similar...pick the guy who fits us best and trade the other. Basically two guys same talents. We have 4 or 5 very nice DTs, but a trade of one could help us a lot for a starting LB or DB. This is just one scenario, there are many others. That's what we pay our GM and F. O for.

Dude no one is trading a 1st rd pick for either guy.
^^I know NY but wishful thinking. Not sure what we could get and not even sure if F. O would consider trade of one. I would hope so. But value in draft picks? That is a tough one. 3rd? 4th? or further down? Possible a 2nd? IDK. Where would you put either one?

Imo both guys cap space requirements (and lack of overall success) makes the value lower then some would think. Thomas might be more cause he's still growing and you have him under contract for a couple yrs.

Or you know, you could just stop trolling in this thread with every single post? Nobody is biting, give it a rest.

We will probably franchise tag him.

Huh? He's under the option for $9 million, the franchise tag for a DT is $13+ million
Probably make him the highest paid player in the league.
So Saleh likened AA to Red Bryant who was a starter for 4 years in Seattle and another in Jacksonville. He praised him for doing the dirty work that doesn't always show up on the stat sheet.

But let's project to get a pace comparison.

Red Bryant Career: 5 Years
4.5 sacks, 152 tackles, 14 TFL & 15 QB hits

Average/Year:
1 sack, 30 tackles, 2.8 TFL & 3 QB hits

Arik Armstead/ 2018 13 Games:
3.0 sacks, 40 tackles, 6 TFL & 12 QB hits

Arik Armstead/ 2018 16 Games:
3.5 sacks, 49 tackles, 7 TFL & 15 QB hits

Average/5 Year Projection:
17.5 sacks, 245 tackles, 35 TFL & 75 QB hits

I wonder if Armstead would have any value in a trade this off season? Could we get a 5th round pick for him, or would it be 6th, 7th, or nothing? I like Armstead as a depth guy, but we have Street coming back making nothing, plus we have Blair+Day as depth guys as well. Personally I would want Armstead gone, if it was either him gone, or us paying him 9 million. That 9 million could be used on an actual difference maker like a Earl Thomas. Earl Thomas would give us that elite FS we need, with Tartt as the thumper at SS, our secondary would be looking pretty good, especially if we land Boas as our LEO to give us a pass rush.
