Remember, with Kocurek, we might be running more wide 9's and we'll need blazers, at least at LEO.

Saleh is still calling the defense, he's made his preferences known. The 5T will continue to two gap, that isn't happening with a 270 pound de. What you're looking at is a prototypical Pittsburgh style 3-4 5T.....6'4"+, 290+ pounds. Its been made clear that for this defense, Priority A, B and C for the 5T is someone that will stop the run so whoever you have at that spot, they'd better be really good at doing that.

You can obviously utilize different looks, ala the way San Diego has done it but this is how Saleh is choosing to run it, might as well let him have the players that he needs.

Im always positive but these moves have me questioning their abilities.

He keeps players like ward, garnett, AA, etc but trade brown because hes fat. The one player has an elite skill set where aa the other players dont.

Two years ago, i knew he was way over his head. I will never have faith in jed again. He struck gold with harbaugh and let him go.

The downside of Ward?

It cost us $8M that could have been used in FA or rolled over, he was a headcase on the field, believing in him precluded the team from adding a veteran who could stay healthy and provide actual production on the field, he retarded development of younger players from real NFL snaps because he was first man up, he ended up NOT being a long term solution, he ended up on I.R. again depleting our depth even more late in the year, he was constantly in-out of the lineup, he gave you 388 snaps at that $8M...just little tiny stuff like that.

And this dumbass FO still has mutual interest in bringing him back too per MM?
when the fans of lynch and ward read this. other than the tried and true talking point.. we have the money..... kind of hard to understand how they can justify bringing back ward.. people keep saying.. well we have the money so lets give aa 9 mill, lets give ward whatever. you are soon going to run out of money and miss out on the better people you could have spent the money on

True. It only matters if the FO was more interested in adding talent and getting better and were willing to use that cap space wisely.

But overall in the grand scheme of things and the results of last year, it wasn't even a dent.

But they are doing it again.

Are they? Armstead played very well this past season. It appears people have more issue with the role he is expected to perform than the player. How do they get better by letting him walk and creating another hole that has to be filled?

Sounds like a FO that is preparing the fan base when they use the franchise tag on him next year.

Only Sherman can stop him from going to Dallas, thankfully Dallas has cap issues

They're gonna be interested in an old busted up player like Thomas but not be interested in a healthy pro bowler like Antonio bryan. This team is beyond help, its hopeless.

Yes, they've kept AA/Ward/& Tart....
Players that have been on IR at minimum 3 pot of 4 years, and even more..

Moves like this contribute to us leading the League with players on IR..

Cut AA and throw EXTRA money at Brandon Graham..
He stays healthy and fills a need of Putting pressure on the passer and stops the run. It's a no brainer except for this front office..

Your telling me these points have no merit?

I'm telling you that Saleh is trying to run his scheme a certain way and Armstead plays a large role in that. He is only 25, coming off a fully healthy season in which he showed real improvement. In this defense, Graham would very likely play the Leo position on defense, not big end.

This is Saleh's model for 5T, the same sort of guy that would be playing the position in a Fangio defense.

Fangios D requires smart defenders that have some awareness of what's going on around them...I have my doubts he would have given AA snaps.
