What!!

We drafted him at NCB not FS

But to say Ward isn't a Safety is absurd, Ward can line up anywhere in the secondary.

its called roster manipulation- He isnt a S. You should come to terms with that now while the off season still sucks.

What did he play in his Junior and Senior seasons in college??

He's a NCB yes, but is he just a NCB??

Exactly, I hate it when Baalke gets excited about players and reaches.
experts have said,, if you want a safety, you get him now cuz he will not last... your use of the word reaching is purely in the eyes of the beholder.. i thought trent was flat out dumb for drafting two linebackers last year. is it a crime against humanity to see how it plays out

Confused by this pick....................... so many other needs.

Perceived needs.

True. I've calmed down watch some highlights and read up on him, seems a lot of teams like him.
plus do you really want to go through a situation where dahl would see extended time? good pro active signing. i think we could afford to do this simply because we do not have a GLARING need, in my opinion in the wide out, cb, linebacker or o line.. yes we need some quality players but in my opinion,, they can still be had tonight or saturday. i like the three backers we signed plus bowman and michael,,,,,, i like the young guys we have back on the o lline,, and yes i like the collection of guys we have in the secondary... i like the wide outs we have,, it is pathetic we still do not know what our two young wide outs have but thats a whole other story ... one more player at each one of those spots tonight or tomorrow and we are set,, in my opinion

True. Maybe now we can finally cut Dahl. lol.

Eagles would've picked him with he 15th pick in rd 2
This could very well be trents guy all along as his top rated safety and the guy he targeted in round 2. Prob just couldnt find anyone to trade down a few spots like he normally does.

Also, i know its been said but, anyone saying S isnt a need has really no clue what they are talking about. I will give you three reasons why its a huge need.

1.Reid is one or two head injury's away from retirement. I don't care where the kid is from, if he ends up with another concussion or two this next season, he will likely be advised by everyone he knows to retire. Kid is very close to having to call it a career IMO.

2. Ward is not a starting FS IMO, and he sure as hell is not a SS. He is a NCB/S hybrid. That's never going to change.

3. Bethea is old.
4 dahl,,,, speaking of death and destruction

We still got 7 picks left too.

of course this is the truth.. like i said,, its a marathon not a sprint

Probably could've had him as an UDFA. I mean, who knew there was a college even called Samford? Just like you, I don't know anything about this guy, so he must not be as good as proven talent evaluators, who have spent hours looking at his film and studying his ability, think.
it was said earlier here, alot of experts are coming out and saying he would not have lasted much longer. i think it is a good pro active signing given erics head, ward in general, betheas longevity on the team and dahls ineptness

Nor how we plan to use them. They are worse than many of our own fans.

Yup! We've assumed we've had all these holes but you've told us for months now that we don't. Fans just don't see it that way though

And I'm just going to keep reposting this until a few back off from the ledge:

Essentially what this allows us to do on passing downs is keep Johnson at outside CB for press coverage (doesn't have to shift over to the slot to cover bigger TE/WR's now), take either Bowman or Wilhoite off the field in coverage and sub Tartt in and allow Ward to roam the slot as well in passing downs. He'll play a hybrid Chancellor-role and ST's for us right now and grow into the SS position...just like Ward with Slot CB-to-FS should something happen to Reid (concussions). This is a great idea with Bowman's knee and Wilhoite's weakness in coverage. We just got some insight into Mangini's defense.

It also tells me we have confidence in our depth at CB which I have thought all along, Reaser and Acker are obviously well thought of and we have Brock, Cook and Wright as weLl. We have a deep CB pool with potential.

due to the fact the team has not rushed right out and drafted a inside backer, might it also say the team is good with bowmans knee and michael w to start the season? we also signed three nice free agent backers including wheeler yesterday who i think could really be good. it also says the draft is deep with wide outs and we have confidence in the two starters, the team will actually develop the two kids from last year and whatever we get from simpson is gravy. there are some needs but they are not GLARING and can be taken care of tonight and saturday in my opinion

what? Giving up on ward already?

Probably Eric Reid (3 concussions in the past 2 years)

Bethea won't be back next year

And with dominant front 7 and a healthy rotation and strength down the middle of the field, the CB's should have a good time this year!

i still think wilhoite is a backup. LYNCH, BROOKS, BOWMAN AND ALDON should be our LB starting lineup and a damn good one at that
Seems like we're definitely reloading defensively.

i respectfully think you are under estimating michael,, of course those four are damn good! no arguing there. this proves my point with those four, michael, the three free agents we signed, moody and whoever else we have alot of linebackers so a inside one is not a GLARING NEED. i am sure the team will draft at least one backer in this draft because that is just what trent does
