you are just nuts now to call eric a bust. he is a fine player but he has some head issues. could be insurance for that,, could be insurance when bethea leaves and its a upgrade over dahl.. it is proactive thinking,, not the re active thinking so many do around here.. i think your comments say more about you than it does about our players
No. I liked the Arik Armstead pick. I like the Eli Harold pick. I hate drafting 3 safeties HIGH 3 straight years. Its idiotic and you know it.
With Graham now a seahawk, we need a goddam platoon of safeties.
That's what I keep saying.
How people don't see this? .....no idea

one thing i notice about this guy's game tape is that he will draw a lot of penalties with those hits.

My thoughts exactly. Even though they are legal by the rules, the refs are being forced to call any violent hit.

I think that will quietly calm down this season.
It became a parody mid way through last year.
Games were won and lost on "subjective" calls.

Like others, i would have been happier with a guy from a big time college...unhhh, maybe Stanford. But i like his hitting in the video, and we got clipped a couple yrs back with AJ,even tho from Ilinois. This kid looked great against smaller colleges,,,hope he hits as big against big time guys .If so we got a winner. The fact he is known from other draft services is encouraging. As for having a platoon of CBs/Ss , we all saw what happened last yr to big time CB and S hits. Concussions. So we DO have to have a raft of them and NC's suggestion of how mangini can use all those guys is neat. l like, it, but just hope he is as good as his video, and press clippings.

While I have contributed in explaining his reasonable early use in the Nickel LB role as he works toward starting at SS, as well as the other thoughts I've seen regarding what this might mean about Ward, I'd point to Baalke's day 2 press conference where when asked to just generally address the pick of Tartt. He started by saying he's a good friend of Jimmy Ward, and then immediately said he's a four down player, and later saying he could play the role in dime possibly, disputing both of the leading WZ thoughts on the guy.

I think the common pronunciation accepted right now is as you stated (I thought it was correct), but I think it's actually Ja kwa ski. Baalke corrected his pronunciation in the day 2 presser to "kwa" and DraftCountdown's pronunciation guide says "Juh-QUA-ski"

Nor how we plan to use them. They are worse than many of our own fans.
Yup! We've assumed we've had all these holes but you've told us for months now that we don't. Fans just don't see it that way though
And I'm just going to keep reposting this until a few back off from the ledge:
Essentially what this allows us to do on passing downs is keep Johnson at outside CB for press coverage (doesn't have to shift over to the slot to cover bigger TE/WR's now), take either Bowman or Wilhoite off the field in coverage and sub Tartt in and allow Ward to roam the slot as well in passing downs. He'll play a hybrid Chancellor-role and ST's for us right now and grow into the SS position...just like Ward with Slot CB-to-FS should something happen to Reid (concussions). This is a great idea with Bowman's knee and Wilhoite's weakness in coverage. We just got some insight into Mangini's defense.
The only problem is if Reid stays healthy we drafted Ward in the 1st round as a back up FS and an underachieving NCB which really isn't his forte. Tartt looks like a good prospect but two 1st rounders and a mid 2nd rounder at the safety position in 3 years is a lot of draft capital.
I guess we will see in august/september if we are a deep team with no holes to fill and we are just adding BPA in this draft or if maybe there were some holes we might have tried to fill in the draft.
I am actually less worried about Tartt justifying his draft position than I am about Ward, especially with Tartt coming in.
It's more about scheme and HOW we used Ward. Last year we used him a lot in trail-mode and that's not his strength esp. when he wasn't healthy. He's more of a pure FS where he excels when the action is happening in from of him and he can utilize his talents/speed/play making ability. Tartt is going to be our Kam Chancellor in our big (nickel) sets on passing downs.
--------------- Eli Harold --------------- Darnell Dockett --------------- Arik Armstead --------------- Aldon Smith -------------------------
------------------------------------------------------- Navarro Bowman --------------- Jaquiski Tartt -------------------------------------------------
Tramaine Brock -------------- Antoine Bethea ---------------- Eric Reid --------------- Jimmie Ward ---------------- Dontae Johnson
Endless combinations here. You can also pull Bowman completely off the field and add another DB and allow Tartt to be that lone MIKE (like how we used to use Bowman). Or go a 3-man DL.
Hopefully Mangini uses Ward better this year and he can continue to grow into the slot CB for us and back up Reid at FS should he ever get hurt. It could very well end up being Tartt (SS) and Ward (FS) back there some day. Baalke is not going to be blindsided by another concussion-retirement.
Can you imagine a Nascar package that involves 3-to-4 DE/OLBs running stunts and speed-rushes?
Aldon Smith
Aaron Lynch
Ahmad Brooks
Eli Harold
3rd-and-Long will be our strength this year

Some talking heads here on the radio brought up the Tartt pick, said he's a similar player to Landon Collins out of Alabama, just with a higher ceiling.
