You really think these guys are a significant upgrade over who we already have? I definitly think Tart is an upgrade over Dahl an Mcray. Now we are at least 2 deep at both safety positions. Plus, we could still get some of these guys, where as if someone took tart, the cupboard would be bare at Saftey.

You don't draft for their replacement in the 2nd though....I don't get this pick AT ALL a head scratcher for sure.

MM wasn't lying that we wouldn't get any 2015 starters from this draft, but 2016 might be a different story. I would have loved Strong instead....

Significant upgrade, well you could argue that with Brock and Cook both coming off injuries along with Keith Reaser who is not only coming off an injury but a question mark as well. Who do the 9ers have at CB who is a clear cut solid starter:

Tramaine Brock - Had a shaky season last year but injuries had a big factor

Shareece Wright - Not even toast gets more burnt than him

Dontae Johnson - I love his potential but I don't think he's ready to start yet

Chris Cook - Showed promise but he is coming off a nasty hamstring tear that put him on IR, hamstrings are a lingering thing

Keith Reaser - A supposedly solid CB, but we shall see coming off of injury, 2015 will be his real rookie season

Kenneth Acker - Both Acker and Reaser are question marks compared to any CB drafted

Then you go Training Camp/Preseason CB's

Marcus Cromartie

Leon McFadden

I wouldn't count on them being anything other than depth to practice squad players

A very shaky group of CB's with no Ed Donatell.

I know I posted this right after Tartt was drafted.
Fans gotta remember that even though we lost Ed Donatell we replaced home with another top DB coach. Baalke has an eye for DBs, Mangini made his name as a DB coach, and we got another top DB coach to replace Donatell... If those guys think we are solid enough in the backfield to wait till day 3 for CBs, a place where Baalke always finds gems, then it's hard to really b*tch about the draft strategy so far.

Stoked on pop Tartt by the way finally we can get rid of Dahl!

Baalke can find a DB playing on a jungle gym. LOL at anyone questioning our CB's or depth. Hell this DL and OLB rotation is insane now. The CBs should have a very easy job this year. The competition there is going to be very intense and heated.

Not going to lie...I knew nothing about this dude when they picked him...but after watching some game highlights I am on board...he fits the D.Golson and D.Whitner role of intimidator/enforcer that our defense was known for and lost over the last few seasons. E.Reid has great ball skills but can't and shouldn't lay the thunder down after his early career concussions are starting to add up. Tartt seems to have a nose for the ball carrier and the size/speed to make wr's and backs think twice. His size/speed also make him valuable as he can be on the field during different packages and as many people stated match up with some bigger TE's (Jimmy Graham)...Hopefully the impressive eye test isn't due to the lower level opponents he faced!

What is Baalke's obsession with mediocre safeties? Jimmie Ward & now this little Tartt.

What is the zones obsession with mediocre posters.

hahahahaha
Watching this dudes video you can tell he loves to hit! Reminds me of a Goldson mentality, which can be a good and bad thing in todays NFL. I really like this pick now. Since Whitner and Goldson left, we missed a little nastiness in the middle.

Edit: at 221 pounds I wonder if there is any though of converting this kid to ILB? He might not have great cover skills as a DB, but it would be considered more than good for a LB. Just a thought.
Strong safety. If he's a hitter, that's good for run support. I always thought the Bethea signing was a stopgap for 1-2 years. This guy may be his replacement.
Well some people are comparing him to chancellor or rodney harrison me likey. I hope he does at least okay tho.

Jaquiski Tartt, S, 49ers (No. 46): Circling back to that whole drop-off-after-Landon-Collins topic ...

That Tartt was the third safety off the board (depending on how Jalen Collins is classified) was not that shocking. It was unexpected to see it happen this early, and by a team that does not have an obvious need at safety. Making it even more intriguing moving forward: Philadelphia traded up to select CB/S Eric Roweone pick after Tartt heard his name called. If Rowe pans out as Tartt scuffles for playing time, San Francisco could be second-guessing this one.

Why is that? Rowe is projected as a corner maybe a f/s. We were targeting a SS. We got Eric Reid we dont need Eric Rowe.

we weren't targeting anything except BPA
Don't believe the hype. Bpa based on our board and what we need. Learn to read between the lines.
