Which I don't get when people complain that the 49ers are drafting backups, any WR they chose would not have been a starter this season either.

Big difference in talent at wr vs safety IMO

Exactly, so would you rather have Tart and Smelter or Strong and any safety we could have drafted in the 4th.
I would prefer strong and a safety In the 4th for sure
We will have to agree to disagree. I don't see that much difference between strong and Smelter. Both need a bunch of development. I would definitely want Tart and Smelter over Strong and the Penn St. safety.

I thought there was a huge drop off after the first 3 Wrs.

Tart was drafted to cover graham. Plain and simple.

Which WR available at 46 are you putting in the pro bowl already?

I believe we have the same amount as the last three Super Bowl champions. Combined.

Pop Tartt VS Graham Cracker

I'll take Pop Tartts all the time
Like this pick for the 49ers also
Eric Reid is one concussion away from serious thoughts of retirement. Antoine Bethea is getting older, and isnt going to be around 2-3 years from now.

Having a Ward/Tartt combo at S is our future plans. If Reid stays healthy, great. Ward can stay at CB.

I think Baalke understands that this team is built around defense first, and maintaining that stability into the future is a must.

Ward can stay at CB? he is f**king garbage at cb. did he make one decent play in the regular season last year? i honestly can't remember him doing anything decent. he won't be on our team in 2 years and if he gets any meaningful time at CB this year that means our CB's are god awful and we are in trouble

he was hurt,, and it was not his fault our over rated d coordinator at the time thought it would be a cute idea to have the kid defend marshall one on one vs the bears. if he gets meaningful time at cb it also may mean he has showed great improvement from last year,, but of course that would destroy your little narrative that we are doomed
Like this kid, prolly could have traded down and still got him, but what evs.

No way is Baalke going to get caught with Ward on Marshall all game long again.

This was regarded as a horrible draft (read: not deep) for safeties. Beyond the top few guys, the rest of them aren't much to write home about. On the other hand, the draft had plenty of talented WRs throughout the mid-late rounds. Heck, some of them even made it through without getting drafted, and were subsequently added by Trent.

he got torched the next week too by a fellow no-name rookie in arizona. there is no narrative. he played like absolute garbage, well below average even for a rookie. in that same game, another rookie CB on the bears made a game changing interception.

as for him being injured... ok? everyone is injured in some way. no excuses. maybe he will improve this year and i would love to eat crow but he showed me absolutely nothing last year, not even a glimmer of hope so i'm not expecting anything from him

I could have sworn those plays were broken down and it was on Reid biting on the play action and subsequently being out of position to provide over the top coverage on Brown. I may be thinking of the wrong play though. Ward didn't pay great but I can see the potential.

Even if Ward continues to improve next season, I get the impression you'll focus on the negative.

Evaluating a drafted player after the first year of play is a fool's errand.

Robert Quinn, of the Rams, drafted 14th overall in the 2011 draft has proven to be an excellent player, but his first year was not very good. (23 tackles and 5 sacks).

We should at least give Ward another year before.............
