He looks the part of an NFL RB, but his vision is awful, he plays scared and has zero power.
I don't care if we only bring Hayne in on running downs, every time we give Mike Davis the ball it's a wasted play. Even Hayne at least gets a couple yards.
I'm failing to understand the value of this guy.
so, do you think we should sit Kaep for Gabby??

Guy looked good in college but now he cant seem to get pass the line of scrimmage? Busted pick?

this. Hyde is one of the top rated RBs on PFF and can hardly gain squat because the line is so bad run blocking. The rookie has no chance.

Exactly ppl are really quick to jump the gun, all of our backs looks like crap behind that line. No lanes to run through but yet everyone wants to ride off a rookie RB that didn't have any expectations as a rookie anyways.

I'm gonna say the run blocking has just been awful no lanes out there at all....OL is pretty important to a RB just ask Demarco Murray
I can't sweat out another hyne RB carry. I'm just waiting for him to fumble the ball, plus he can't pass block at least Davis is good at that.

With that O-line, I'm not ready to write him off quite yet. However, I also wasn't as excited about the guy as many were in the preseason. I just didn't see what everyone was so pumped about. I felt/feel he jukes around too much. If he can tone that part of his game down, and get some blocking, then I think we can better evaluate his true value.

I took another look at his college highlights. It seemed like most of his big plays were YAC or when he had time to accelerate through a big lane. Once he got going, his power and vision were apparent.
He kind of reminds me a little of Terry Kirby. He's good on the outside. But we might not know how effective he can be between the tackles until he improves conditioning and gets a better push up front.

You cant write him off at all. He is talented, but any rookie runningback is going to struggle adjusting to the speed of the NFL. Rookie RBs also tend to think too much and not just react.
Just ask Melvin Gordon.

It seems he has good short area quickness, but I agree he jukes too much. Also, he reversed field a number of times and was successful doing it - against backups. This is bad because if he thinks he can do that versus starters, he is wrong. I hope he didn't pick #20 trying to emulate Barry Sanders. Rathman needs to coach that out of him. Be more decisive and he can be a good between the tackles runner.

Yeah, but its not like there is obvious holes for him to decisively run through. He is a rookie, and looks vey green, but I really do hate how the zone writes off young players immediately.

This. Hyde should have a lot fewer yards if it wasnt for him being a human pinball. How many times have defenders had him dead to rights behind the line of scrimmage this season and somehow he bounced and powered his way to a 3 or 4 yard gain instead of a 3 or 4 yard loss?
People focus on the pass blocking but the run blocking, especially along C and RG might even be worse.
Hard to get much anything going without an exceptional back that can keep bouncing off defenders until he finds a hole.
