I still expect him to be cut come September. Nothing against the kid, but breaking limp arm tackles hasn't really changed the equation for him.
LOL yeah like all the RBs "ahead" of him did much of anything to distance themselves....in case you didn't see Harris fumbled in the red zone (that will get you cut) and he outplayed draughn yesterday.
I still don't get why you cut a 4th rd pick from a year ago when you have 2 RB nomads with him.

Oh, I am not in the bandwagon of the others either. Unlike most the WZ I don't find our RB depth to be all that impressive. Mind you, there is something to be said in not stuffing too much cap money in such a fragile position. Perhaps the answer is to platoon cheap journeymen and rookies.
And as I said: nothing against the kid. I am not advocating cutting him either. I don't have a horse in this race anyway - I think we will suck at RB whenever Hyde is not on the field. I just don't see how Davis went from surefire cut meat to keeper on the strength of breaking a couple of long preseason runs. Preseason means nothing. Hayne looked pretty damn awesome in last year's preseason. BJ Daniels was the combination of Montana and Young. Kory Sheets was... well, Kory Sheets was just Kory Sheets. The God of Preseason.
Fat lot of good that did him. That's all I'm saying.

Who said he was a surefire cut to begin with? When's the last time we cut a 2nd yr 4th round pick? Especially when like you said we have nothing sure behind Hyde?
You bring up 7th round picks and UDFA as comparisons when talking about preseason fools gold....Davis was a 4th round pick that they actually invested something into, that's a big difference IMO.
It blows my mind how people can judge a guy off of 35 attempts with a s**t OL last season (then he got injured) You could see that he put in the work this off season, before his final season at South Carolina he was looked at as a 2nd rd pick for a reason my man. He's a perfect fit for chip's inside zone run game and you could see that.
yeah it's just preseason but that's all we got to look at right now as far as chip's offense goes with these guys

When was he a surefire cut??
Also the Sheets comparison is a really lazy one. We're talking about a guy that delivered in the first half of the game, not a guy who racked up yards in the 4th quarter versus people who will be working at Starbucks in a month.
Davis looked like the guy that people were predicting would be a 2nd round pick in the draft before having a subpar final season and injury issues dropped him down.
No reason why he cant develop into a solid backup RB.

It helps to not have an OL that cant open up a hole to save their life and allows multiple guys into the backfield pretty much as soon as the ball is snapped.
Davis also looked slimmer and a lot more decisive. He wasnt dancing around as much and once he got going you could see that he has pretty decent speed too.

His newfound burst he demonstrated last night was impressive. He seemed so sluggish last year... not last night!!! He had some nice cutbacks, too.

Where exactly are you getting your info that he was "surefire cut meat"? Granted he didn't look good last year but who actually did? People were obviously jumping the gun on thinking he'd be dropped. Hindsight is obviously 20/20 but I didn't see any situation where he doesn't make the roster at least for another season and now he has slimmed down and looks very light on his feet. I'm a fan of his.

LOL no. This dude did well last preseason too. And then... fail.
He's doing what he needs to do to stay on the 53. But he will need to do this (or close to) in the regular season. Otherwise, he'll be a midseason cut.
The standards of acceptance on this preseason wonder are so low. I think Davis can be okay. But as we know, his preseason has not translated to the regular season. Show us.

What are you talking about? His one run of 44 was more than he had in any preseason game last year. And he played against the twos and threes last year. This kid has lost weight, is a lot faster, and is running more decisive.
