MM: I was unaware that there's been hype for the seventh-round pick. He's big and he has pretty good feet. He has a chance to be a player because the 49ers will put him on a good diet and he'll probably go through a complete body makeover over the course if the next year. I still remember how Alex Boone looked when he arrived with the 49ers and how different he looked late in his rookie season. I think Brown has a chance, and the offseason absence of Anthony Davis might help him get there sooner.

MM doesn't know about the inflation of hype the Zone brings

Not a doctor, but I did stay at a holiday inn once-hahaha. Seriously-X-rays combined with MRI and CAT scans can detect the severity of the back injury. Again certain injuries they already have an average time table. Here is the other problem. Keeping a player out all year-he loses seniority. Someone like Brown after 3 years he is an restricted FA, so if you do this he loses that year and is stuck with a team for four years. To be a total free agent 5 years. If he turns out to be a good player, he loses out. Players are not going to sacrifice for the team when their earning power is so short lived. So player is not going to fake it if he can get claimed to go to a another and make the 53 man roster.

That only happens if they entered TC on an injury list, iirc. Teams have discretion regarding recovery times. They shelved Acker for the year on what amounted to a 4-8 week injury. I think this happens a lot, and any team calling foul over this would eventually get burned too. Everyone is hurt at the end of TC. Guys on the injury list make more money than practice squad guys, iirc.

Unlike Maiocco Cohn studies everything said on the zone and then writes his articles based on trolling us.

You said it!
He should get a chance to compete at the spot. If Boone doesn't move to RT, or show up to camp, Brown could very easily be the starter on opening day. Only other competition is Pears.

I know it's a pipe dream, but it might be interesting to see what Okoye can do at T. The kid has just about the perfect body, strength, and agility to play the position, but it would likely be a project that wouldn't pan out this year.

Me too. Early reports are saying Brown looks impressive. It'll be a HUGE break for us if he's capable of being the new starter.

As for Okoye, I'll be surprised if he's ever activated for a game. The dude is trying to make a huge transition. Maybe if d-line doesn't work out for him, his last shot could come as a tackle. Problem then is that he's learning an entirely new skill set all over again. He's an amazing athlete, I would love to see him progress to the point he can suit up for a game.

DL Quinton Dial's scouting report on RT Trent Brown: "He's got pretty good feet for a big guy...initial quickness, good lateral quickness."

Nice! All he has to do is keep his weight in check. He's a better athlete than people think.
I had a 4th round grade on Brown going into this draft. Is he is a quality starter in this league? I don't think so. But, he has a ton of size, played really well during Senior Bowl week, and was excellent value late in this draft.

For me, my top guy in this draft when the Niners were on the clock was Cameron Erving. I would love him being ready to take over at RT at this point, especially with Armstead probably being a limited snap guy in 2015. Oh, well. You go with who you've got.

I think the Niners will end up moving Boone to RT, and sliding one of their interior lineman inside at RG. I could easily see a Staley-Thomas-Kilgore-Martin/Looney-Boone front line.

That's cool. We will soon find out

That sounds about right to me as well.
